If there are truly 7 teams

Did this "leaked" information happen to pressure another team to join and make it 8? Didn't someone say if we have 8 then the GOR can be broken?

I think that's what they're hoping for. Wouldn't it make...

sense for ND to be no.8? Free from the GOR, ND could just let the bidding begin. Everyone wants them.

I am curious and am not as well educated on the GOR but is ND part of it, even though they are not members fully (football)?

ND would assist in the GOR rejection being a member in all

other sports but football. If I have been Conference Manager I would have forced ND to joined as a full member during the COVID year. GO TIGERS BEAT EM ALL! In every sport

I'm guessing it's because...

eight would constitute a simple majority or more than half of all members.

Do the math. If the 14/15 member ACC gets a certain amount of money from tv, how much lower would an 8 team conference get? The math does work. If 14/15 teams do not have the draw to attach more money, 8 teams would get a pitiful share.
The next big thing is an 8 team conference would not have a championship game and might not have an automatic entry into the Playoffs.

I don't see why ND would be part of it. Swofford gave them everything they wanted - a place to park all their sports and 5 games to fill out their football schedule. The only way to get ND in a conference is if the other Power conferences go to 10 conference games or more which leaves no room to schedule an independent ND.

The significant changes to the college football landscape recently, and the crazy amounts of money now involved are the issues here.
It's not Swofford's fault that Miami, Virginia Tech, Louisville, and Boston College all saw their football programs decline since joining the ACC. If even one of those teams stayed nationally relevant on a consistent basis, we wouldn't be having this discussion. If two or three had remained really good at football, the ACC might be the ones with the huge TV contract raiding other conferences.

Adding BC was a terrible decision...

and the ONLY REASON that happened was because Swofford's son worked in the BC athletic department at the time.

No it's not. The reason Boston College, Syracuse, and Pitt were added were because of their television markets. That's the same reason Missouri was added to the SEC, Rutgers and Maryland were added to the Big 10, and Colorado was added to the Pac 12. It was for access to those TV markets, and that DID increase the TV contract for the ACC, as well as those other conferences.

Boston is a pro sports city. They care about the Patriots, the Celtics, the Red Sox, and the Bruins.

Boston is a pro sports city. It is also a large TV market which DID increase the ACC's TV revenue. I don't care if you don't like it. Facts are facts.

This argument about TV Markets is kind of null and void

these days. With the rise is streaming TV, you don't have to be in a certain "market" to watch whatever team you want to watch. It's more about eyes on screens and the teams that draw them

No, TV markets aren't dead.
For one, you are not correct about streaming. It's not a la carte like you think it is. Streaming is really set up a lot like cable is. You get different packages of channels, just like cable. You also have different packages in different areas. Also, these games are still broadcasted on regular networks (ESPN, ABC, Fox, NBC), so you are still just getting the same feeds from these games as you get from cable. Additionally, the payout from the conference networks are still based on subscriber locations.
Markets definitely ate not dead.

No, it's exactly what I think it is. I can watch ANY game in the entire country with the right app.

should have taken West Virginia

I know, academics... blah blah and presidents probably would not have allowed it. But taking West Virginia long time ago would have put an end to Big 12 imo. Eyeballs on Pitt vs West Virginia, Clemson vs West Virginia, Virginia vs West Virginia, VaTech vs West Virginia all better options than BC. Never should have taken BC or Syracuse.

Well, the Twitter rumor mill has reported that Louisville has joined the "7" and they are now 8. This is getting interesting........no doubt a lot of this is just speculation but "something" is definitely going on.

Well this is really pretty simple math then, much like a U.S. Senator as a swing vote on a piece of legislation. One of the non Magnificent 7 can open up the bidding. It will be cheaper for Clemson and others to donate $7M each to the swing vote than lose $20M a year for the next 10 years under the GOR.
