Legit curiosity about shooting in MN

Pulled over for expired tag Warrant discovered Attempt at cuffing turns to resistance Female Officer fires gun instead of taser
(Let me know if I’m missing any other key details)
Does the fact that the officer was a female change anything? If it was truly a mistake, does that equal racism? If police are defunded, how will that impact training and possible other incidents like this? I believe the officer deserves due process and consequences I believe the victims family deserves resolution and justice
This one seems tricky if it was actually an accidental discharge.

Pretty sure it was accidental by the cam footage. The officer is an idiot, and the perp was a bigger one.

one source, my girlfriend. She said it was an air freshener that got him pulled. Expired tag is a different situation.
People can make points that this driver got himself killed. The officer being female doesn't change anything, other than set women in police back. I don't know about the race thing in this situation but maybe systemic racism is why 3 officers were there. The officer is guilt of manslaughter on account of her negligence/incompetency.

been corrected to "expired tags".
Systemic racism is not why the other officers were there. After being stopped, it was learned that he had an existing arrest warrant for carrying an unlicensed weapon and fleeing police (apparently on foot). He didn't show up for his court date... So, there needed to be 3 of them there.

A tragic situation and its terrible. But notice the difference in responses to a tragedy. MN- man with warrants does not comply with police and struggles with them and gets shot accidently =riots, looting, and chaos. Rock Hill SC -man mass murders doctor ,his wife ,2 grandkids,2 HVAC workers =memorial service of love and forgiveness no riots, looting,or chaos.

It’s because the people of Rock Hill were responding to a tragedy. The MN crowd was using a tragedy as an excuse to be who they are.

In one way they are comparable. In Rock Hill -victims family-love and forgiveness to assailant.Assailants family-father blames football, sister blames football and Dr. took away his drugs/meds,will expect payday from NFL. In MN-victims family no love nor forgiveness to officer, will want big payday. In a better comparison in Rock Hill SC last year a man did not comply with traffic stop on Celanese rd., ran from cops to dead end at ####, got out of car shooing at cops ,cops shot back and hurt suspect. No riots, looting ,chaos because cops should not have tried to stopped him, they should have not shot him, etc.

Had dude just been cuffed and stuffed for his warrant, he'd be alive today.
Mistaking your service pistol for a taser is inexcusable. She'll be terminated (in the process which her union requires, not as the mob sees fit) and then likely convicted of manslaughter.

from the video. Mainly not understanding why she was called over. I couldn't tell what was going on but it looked like the officer had the guy cuffed then called her over. Maybe he couldn't quite get them on. I only watched the video once so I'm just not sure there.
My point is, it would just pile on to the tragedy if she was called over for some training moment.

It's terrible.
On the one hand... is this guy a #thuglife loser who was going nowhere in life? Yes. The facebook pictures and seeing his mother are about all you need to know about the particular stratum of IQ this family resides within. Should you run from cops? No.
That being said, is the punishment for resisting arrest death?

from the arrest-resisting community though.
As an officer - you HAVE to subdue the guy. You know that he is known to carry illegal weapons. (Is there one in the car? The officer doesn't have the luxury to wait to find out.) If he just speeds off in his car? Will he kill someone in the process?
This was a tragic accident. The chances of a tragic accident greatly increased when the guy resisted a justified arrest.

can't have a playbook for how to get out of stuff but the police need to know when to let somebody go and try to catch them another day. Like was this warrant because the guy had been pulled over before and had a gun he wasn't supposed to or was there some violence to go along with it.

don't believe this was one of those situations.
If he's desperate enough to run (again) from police - they cannot just wait to see if he has another gun and is now desperate enough to use it. If you wait for violence to happen before you act, it's too late.

only he knows his next move and if he comes goes for a gun rather than trying to simply get away this is another story. I think it this case as long as she is relived of any patrol duties and at least has to face some manslaughter charges the justice is as served as it can be.
From what I saw of this situation is was nothing like the situation with the in uniform lieutenant that got pepper sprayed. I'd even agree that he didn't do exactly right, but the video I saw on that shows the cops just being ######## from the jump.

, then the cop should not have fallen for it. I don't know the protocol for when to walk to the car with guns drawn but that would get me jump as a driver. Did he fail to stop or was he trying to get to some place with lights? In my view, both parties behaved poorly in this by playing that stupid ### game where they just repeat stuff. I saw it a lot on live PD too, so maybe just maybe cops should stop repeating an order long enough to answer a question rather than both parties just getting agitated.

A warrant is a warrant. If the guy already skipped out on a court date he should be arrested. He had already ran from the cops once and tired to again this time. Should he have been shot with a pistol. No but the officer messed up and will more than likely be tried and probably go to jail. People have to see the bigger picture. Would he have been arrested yes but I’d bet money he’d still be alive since the two officers had no weapons drawn on him until he resisted. Had he not run the officers could have and more than likely would have performed emergency aid. Life’s to short as is. If you think it’s a smart move to fight with cops, resist arrest, ect. then you’re going to get whatever they give you and unfortunately it cost him his life.

Sounds about right. She should be charged with involuntary manslaughter, out of jail in 6 months, a security guard for the rest of her life. Maybe, just maybe a verdict like this will make cops think 2x before drawing their weapons when it is not necessary. I just do not see that they should be given a different set of rules cause their "job is hard".

Are you under the impression that the officers checked out the guy's facebook page after pulling him over?
Also, from the reporting I've seen, it appears the officers were not aware of what his warrant was for at the time of the arrest.
Calling the guy a "drug dealing murderer" is not just a wild exaggeration, it's also completely irrelevant to how the cops dealt with him.

have a job that requires them to confront violent people (so they can protect law abiding folks). The "protect" in serve and protect does not mean "protect" criminals.
An officer thinking 2x about drawing her weapon is a good way for that officer to get killed.
We need to acknowledge the difficulty of the job we ask officers to do.

Was the taser in a cross draw setup? If so, it’s a truly shocking misdraw If it’s in a normal draw position on the non dominant side, then it’s not good practice for the very reason we see in this case
