against real skinny people, they hardly ever get a part on one.

Yes, in general they do cater to the fringes / minority groups as a way to curry favor and win "social acceptance". Skinny people who were once over-represented have been replaced by, well not so skinny people.
Categories (just a few):
Weight proportionate vs. Fat
Good Looking vs. Ugly
Majority vs. Minority
Traditional vs. Secular
Straight vs. LGBTQZXIYMV
Conservation vs. ECO Activism
Heck, you can't even turn on the TV and find a straight, or racially homogenous couple on the television anymore. Somehow it seems like black people, who make up like 11-12% of the population are in 50% of the commercials...LOL! I'm sure it's all a coincidence.

in America. Also, the number of people who complain most about underrepresentation are almost always the worst specimens of their group (i.e. ugly, fat, poor, etc). It's all really ironic.

Definitely noticed there are a lot of light skinned brown people that could be Mediterranean or hispanic or half black in commercials.
It's a way for them to appeal to all segments, I guess, without offending anyone.
