There will be a day of reckoning for NIL

when the businesses figure out they are not getting a good ROI on their money. The tax loopholes that will closed will create problems. The greed from agents and parents will get worse and the money will tighten, leaving a lot of good young men without the college education they are getting from colleges that are not buying players.i have no problem with NIL but bidding on an 18 yo is not good.

What a deal… bought said players, do not make the playoffs, they quit and now you can’t beat SMU. Think I would pass if I knew that scenario would play out.
But if it fits your narrative roll with it.

They didn’t make the playoffs because of the Jordan Travis injury. Interestingly they certainly would have made a 12 team playoff for sure.So I believe they will certainly roll the dice again in the future.

From a business standpoint, I agree. Less up front money. What happens when a local or national brand throws a ton of cash at a player and then he tanks? Anyone seen the DJU Dr. Pepper commercial lately?
But the greed of agents and parents (and the players) knows no bounds. NC just approved that high schoolers are now eligible for NIL deals. The impedance behind that one? The kid from UNLV? What was their motivation? Agents and parents.

All it would have taken is a high school player to challenge a rule to the contrary. What part of taking NIL from US citizens is against the law do yall not understand. The only way you can do that is by compensation. That’s the way it should be.

I agree as long as it's NAME-IMAGE-LIKENESS. This thing could have been resolved not so long ago, and by the NCAA themselves if they had the stones to do it. Reggie Bush's case was absolutely legit. If a school is using a player's NIL, then a resounding yes! The player is entitled to a piece of the that deal.
But, we get the NIL in it's present form because we were sold on the idea that the schools were making all the money on this thing. Which is only part of the story. And yes, I'll say that the schools have an investment here as well. They are investing time and money into this athlete. And sometimes the return on that investment is ZERO. They're called non-revenue sports. And currently for some the ROI is zero. Those are called transfer athletes.
Now, this has gone way off the rails when a kid gets a ton of cash thrown at him for showing up at your school because YOU think the kid is gonna take you to the promised land. And that's all you care about. (I don't mean you personally). And the courts have said that's fine. And a lot of fans say "that's ok with me". I mean, we do have to compete. Don't we?

NIL my ###. What idiot is going to pay a high schooler an NIL besides a LeBron James type of player?
It’s called pay for play. We are not talking about the legalities of a verified NIL. Are there true NIL’s? Of course there are but all the money flowing now and coaches talking about needing 20 million it is easy to see what is going on.
In the end it is called competitive integrity. Folks used to have it but it’s not that common anymore.

Not saying I wouldn't do the same thing. The money would go into an account they couldn't touch until they graduated. I would say we would use the money to offset the cost of the education, but let's assume there's a scholarship also involved in the deal. But that's me.
My problem is that the sharks already smell blood in the water. The sharks being the agents. They know they are dealing with players and parents that don't really understand the business they're getting into. More bucks for them equals more bucks for me. Because, after all, they're just looking out for the best interest of their child right? And make no mistake, when there are humans and money involved, it's gonna go sideways.
I do believe in anyone being able to monetize their talents. No problem with that whatsoever. Except when it kills the goose that lays the golden egg. Then where are we?

Not really sure how you are going to ultimately confiscate a legal adults money and withhold it. Yea you are their parent but at 18 you lose a lot of legal power sir. If they wanted to push the issue you’re not doing that.

It's called raising your children. I wouldn't be "confiscating" anything. I can confidently say without hesitation that I have raised mine to actually think and make smart decisions. It's easy for me to pontificate about my own. But I can sleep at night knowing that "legal power" will never be necessary.

What you think isn’t legit really is. The boosters are paying nil for a service by the player. It’s up to them to decide what that is. Some NIL are worth more than others. The player is simply deciding which nil package he likes better. No different than you choosing what benefits you like better with your job.

Keep thinking that. These people don’t want a return on an investment. You think Phil knight cares about a monetary return? No he wants a return in national championships. Same as all the other donors.

Donors spend a lot of money on coaches that don't work out, but that hasn't stopped them from continuing to donate. Florida boosters are ready to spend tens of millions to buy out Billy Napier so they can try again with a different coach. Success is never guaranteed, whether it's a coach or a player that you're paying for.
