Revenue sharing impact

Sep 24, 2024, 10:37 AM

Smart programs are going to cut all the sports that are losing money and will keep just enough sports to comply with title 9.

This will put them into position to maximize revenue sharing in football and basketball

If Clemson is smart the administration will get rid of all men’s sports except for football, basketball, baseball and soccer.

I know people will lose their minds when golf and track/field (again), but it’s the smart/right thing to do.

“Salary Cap” on how much can be given to athletes. Clemson makes more than enough to support all the programs it currently does after paying out the max available to football and basketball.

Salary cap from schools sure but nil will still be unlimited. Just like pros. You legally can not cap someone’s earning potential

And NIL has nothing to do with the pot of money that supports those sports***

Do you think the court will allow a hard salary cap?

Didn’t they already set a max limit of 22%?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That is still being negotiated

But that's the preliminary number.

Not sure how that would work with the Title IX caveat. You keep Softball, Women's Basketball and Women's soccer. I would guess that at most schools ALL sports lose money except for football. Others recoup money through basketball.

Funny that's what always gets left out of this discussion. Yes , football is the money maker. And just how many actual real students is the football program putting through school? How many people are out there working and practicing for the honor of having Clemson on their jersey playing a sport that they'll never get a chance to play again once their college days are over? Do you realize that we are the only country in the world where a person can get a college education paid for because they are good at a particular sport? But who cares right? Maximize those revenues! You can never have enough.

I question that it is the "smart/right" thing to do.

Simple. It's a business decision.

That's likely where the business is headed.
