BAND BACK TOGETHER" mode. Rehire Chad Morris. Rehire Jeff Scott. Bring back Brent Venables! Time does not exist in a vacuum, it marches on. The particular set of circumstances that led to success with those individuals in the past will never exist again. Sequels, almost universally, are a big letdown.
Be happy with the success we are having right now, with the COACHES we have right now. This season still has a chance to be very special, when it is looked back upon in years to come. As Billy Joel once sang:
"The Good Old Days weren't all that good, and tomorrow ain't as bad as it seems..."
Go, Tigers!

While I agree with that overall sentiment, the good old days were actually pretty awesome. 😀

I’m so happy with Wes Goodwins mediocrity. How could the greatest defensive coordinator boost a defense that has scheme and fit issues?! You’re absolutely right! Venables would only make the defense worse. Makes total sense now. Glad you pointed that out!! 🤣
Hire Venables. Fire Goodwin.

That’s like being fired as CEO and going back to your previous company to be a project manager. No one is going to do that in the business world. You may not get an equal CEO position but you might find a lesser one or a position of different title you fill has equal weight but your not going to go back to being a regular manager.
Why would we hire BV to have him around for 1 or 2 yrs and leave again for another HC job. Now we’ve burnt the bridge with Wes and we are without BV again. We would really be in a mess. As we’ve seen with the O ifs mostly about the caliber of players. Last year Wes was the best coach we had, this year fire him. He’s gets some new guys or some improve and next year he will be back to turning it around. One thing I’ve learned is fire the coach isn’t the answer always. Getting rid of Austin for Luke, right choice, firing Streeter for Riley was not an immediate turnaround, we needed Wesco and Moore and linemen and Cade to mature.

Agree about coaches. The fact that you had success one time does not mean you will have that success again. All the circumstances from your first time have changed. Hugh Freeze an example of time running out for his magic

Jeff's greatest strength is recruiting do we even know if he can be the same recruiter in the NIL environment?
Now coach V... Wes is doing a fine job but coach V is the best DC in the country so yeah he'd be an upgrade if he was somehow available.

Well recruiting in the NIL environment should be easier.
Ask what they have been offered and top it.

DC for life. He may be better suited to let someone else run the show and let Jimmy Greenbeans do some Nut Cuttin’.
Better to be the best DC in the country than a mediocre journeyman HC.

hire Venables if we could. I know that's moot cuz he aint getting fired in the next 2 years. But the man was obviously a massive part of the reason we won two natties. I don't think we win them without him.

I don't want any of those offensive guys back - Riley is doing quite well thank you.
OTOH, I'd take BV back in a second. I am happy with Porkchop, but BV as D coordinator is a level-above beast.

While I dont consider myself a "get the band back together" guy there is one I would be happy to see come back.
Its not Venebles, I dont think he gets fired until next year at the earliest. Add in the reasons the OP stated, I am not entirely sure how the new headset communications would affect him. He was the absolute king at the last second adjustment and in-game deciphering hand/board signals.
I DO think Riley moves on within 2 years. He COULD leave after this year for a HC gig but even if he doesnt and we continue to progress offensively I see him getting a HC offer after next year. I dont think anyone would be surprised, we knew he wasnt going to be long term hire.
That is when I would like to see Scott come back. Maybe not as the sole OC but perhaps Co-OC and Recruiting Coordinator.
