The "U" missed on their betting line...

1

Caesars had them as -54 and they won 48-7.

The crowd of barely 40K in a 64k stadium probably not the most exciting atmosphere likely set the tone.

No love lost for Miami but…

Getting rid of the orange bowl and having a stadium so far from campus is sad

Coming off that huge win, it’s sad to see a half empty stadium

Half empty stadium?

If it was only half empty, then a whole bunch of people came dressed as empty seats.

There is no way there were 40K in the stands.

I watched some of that game, the first quarter or so.

If there were 40K in the stands, that stadium holds at least 300K.

I would say it was much closer to 10K, and you may have to count the folks in the press box and those working concessions to get to 10K.

Regardless Miami is a good team and will give the good guys all they want in a few weeks. Regardless of the attendance.. Orange better be ready to go from the opening kickoff.

a prominent Miami booster was trying to get a new 60,000 seat stadium built about two or three miles from the U campus. The new stadium would include a retractable roof, air conditioning and luxury suites. The goal was to get the new stadium built by 2025.

Not sure what the current status is now, but in 2008, the University signed a 25-year contract to play their home games at Hard Rock Stadium.

Even when Miami was playing at the Orange Bowl, which seated around 72,000, and was only about six miles from the campus, they still rarely sold out their home games. That said, I agree with you. There is NO WAY there were 40,000 people at that game last night.

a football stadium in their neighborhood. Schellenberger tried to get them to build a 45000 seat stadium on campus when he was there. You have to realize Miami is the Wake Forest of Florida, an expensive private coolege.

It has been a few years since I was last on the U campus...

but if memory serves, they are effectively landlocked. Would they even have space for an on-campus stadium? I know the Riviera Country Club blocks them to the north and US Highway 1 blocks them to the south. There are neighborhoods to the west and a large hospital to the east.

The house always wins and if the line was -54, being 6 points off was only matters to those people stupid enough to bet and to anyone else.

Hard to inspire fans to show up on a Thursday playing a small Daytona Beach FCS school. I’ll give the fans a pass. Especially considering it’s an off campus venue.

If/when they build this, I expect they will have greater turn out regardless of opponent. Seems they had some mojo getting this thing kicked off/announced last year but now who knows?
