Question for those familiar with Charleston dining

I will be traveling to Charleston on business for a few days next week.
This will be my first trip to Charleston in about 18 months.
Any good dining/seafood recommendations? A couple of my former favorites were The Wreck and R.B.'s.
I realize R.B.'s is considered a tourist trap by many (particularly the locals), but I have known the owner, Ronnie Boals, for years.
What about the Noisy Oyster, Hank's, or North of Broad?

we enjoyed Hanks which is downtown. Also the Boat House between sullivans and IOP is always good (Beech Inlet - maybe?) if you dont mind a drive. I heard the one downtown had closed

its "Breach Inlet" (I hope I spelled it correctly)....the CSS Hunley sailed out of Breach Inlet on its way to history and the sinking of the USS Housatonic.
There was a also a major engagement between British and American troops when the redcoats tried to attack Fort Moultrie from the rear. The British severely underestimated the depth of the creek there and many became easy targets for the Americas deployed on the Sullivans Island side

but too many people discovered it and they sacrificed quality to better accomodate the larger crowds.
You can have it good or you can have it fast but you can't have both.

I've ate there many times, and didn't say it wasn't good. Just that is a huge busy tourist trap with many local places that are better.

Get the Shrimp and Grits. Better yet, get the Shrimp and Grits and the Fried Green Tomatoe BLT and split it with your wife. Order the seasonal tap from Coast Brewery while you're there. Great lunch.

Fleet landing is always great - check for reservations of fri or sat night.
Coast or Rue de Jean are also great options.
Hanks is exceptional
avoid Noisy Oyster or Hymans (bleck..barf barf)

My preference would be Hank's slightly over SNOB, with Noisy Oyster a very distant third. Noisy Oyster is more reasonably priced though. I also like Rue de Jean on John St, it is French but has some good seafood also.

SNOB has among the best shrimp and grits I have had. You can't go wrong there but the entrees have been hit or miss. I have never had a bad meal at Hank's, one of my favorites.

Former Charleston tour guide here:
Fine Dining:
Someone mentioned Peninsula Grill and that's where it's at. McCrady's, Magnolia's, Oak Steakhouse and Hall's Chophouse get all the love in the media because they have very aggressive PR reps. But Peninsula, IMO, is the best fine dining experience downtown in terms of your traditional approach. Wear a coat and tie.
Nice but Casual Dinner:
Hank's Seafood is great. It's slightly pricier than a more touristy place like Hymen's, but the quality is much better. If you choose on "seafood dinner" in Charleston, go here.
Cheap Eats
De'Allesandro's Pizza: It's off the beaten path a bit, but it's literally the best pie I've had in my life. Great, high quality ingredients, sweet tomatoe sauce, buttery crust, excellent consistency.
Great Lunch Spots:
Cru Cafe, which is located right behind the carriage tour barns on a side street, is a Southern fusion place. I'm not sure if John still runs it, but if he does, you can rest assured you're gonna get a kickazz sandwich/soup/salad concoction that you won't find anywhere else.
Fleet Landing has a nice water view, good menu and is decent quality for the price. I've had a lot of people say they think it's gone downhill in the past few years, but I don't feel that way.
Upper King:
The Ordinary is a new place that's apparently the hottest place in town for cocktails and raw/steam oysters and shrimp.
Hall's Chophouse: Want the best aged porterhouse in the State of South Carolina. Here you go.
STAY AWAY FROM:
- Noisy Oyster
- A.W. Shucks
- Bubba Gumps
- Hymans
These are all the epitome of a tourist trap. They literally exist to prey on tourists. "Local shrimp" at these places means farm-raised. "Fresh-caught" means "came in on the Truck last Sunday evening."

I haven't personally been to Husk, but I know several people who have and they all say it is vastly overrated. Of course I'm not speaking from personal experience so who knows.

My family just moved from Chucktown to Gville this year. And my wife and I started work in the restaurant industry. Don't go to those places for tourists, ex. Hymans, aww shucks, bubba gumb. Magnolias is one of the best for fine dining southern meal, also Blossom for some fresh Atlantic seafood. SNOB is overrated and so is High Cotton, Cypress is a very good place to eat but prepare to spend over 30$ a plate. Those are my east Bay Street suggestions.

Try Salt on Sullivans Island. Formerly Station 22. Has new theme great food and atmosphere. Owner is CU grad and his whole family is all CU.

I've been to half a dozen Wild Wing locations and every one of them have been solid and lively - sometimes, too rowdy, actually. Great place to watch a game. Beats the #### out of King Street Grill IMO. And the waitresses are hawter
