The view from 30,000 feet

21

Nov 18, 2024, 8:56 AM

Three coaches in the history of college football have won 9 games or more in 14-straight seasons.

Tom Osborne
Bobby Bowden
Nick Saban

There is a coach with a chance to add his name to the list this week.

If this post happens again next year and it's:

3 Coaches have won 8 games or more in 15 straight seasons....blah blah

Is it still good perspective?

Take your weak tiger pulse coot loving buns to their site. What you want? a 6 million dollar coach
where the fan base is happy with 6 or 7 wins? Ecstatic with 9?. Or maybe an 8 mill coach that smells
a conference championship every few years. I will take Dabo and 11 mill, and figure we are getting a bargain. I been following them for 50 years. I have seen a lot of it. We are lucky, so take your naysaying a$$ elsewhere, or get with the real fans.

Or maybe you could just answer the question?

Or did I hurt your feeble feelings?

As we already knew, our program is great, thanks Dabo.

It don't think it matters to about 50% of TNetters. Dabo could win a 3rd title and the very next season if he lost a game those folks would be out calling for him to be let go.

Most people say things in chat they'd never say in an in-person group setting. They're just frustrated that we've disappeared from playoff contender and ACC title hopes.
You'll never convince me that there aren't least 1 or 2 players we could have benefitted from through the portal. If Bama and UGA and OSU are using it, so should we.
Our play calling is way too vanilla. Riley can do better than run between tackles, bubble screen, and 10 yd out routes. That's probably 90% of our calls. Maybe give Haynes or Ezio some carries since Mafah is moving like Earl Campbell does today.
Dabo is the best coach we'll ever have, but adapt or die.

Judging by what I read on here I am guessing that coach is Shane Beamer

Yes it is, read the coots comments on their site. If that is what we want to be as Clemson fans, count me out. I been there done that, got the t-shirt. I love where Dabo has brought us. We are lucky it is only 11 mill.

Long time excellence. Two comments.

1. No one mentions this, but I think one of Jack Nicklaus' accomplishments which makes him the greatest golfer who ever lived was he finished in the top 4 in the money list for 17 years in a row. That is consistent excellence!

2. Those three guys you listed, soon to be four are all hall of fame coaches. Only one of them has won 10 games or more for 14 years in a row.

Not arguing your point, but the seasons are longer now than they were in the past. So it’s easier to get to 10 wins when you play 12 or 13 games. Still a remarkable achievement, just saying it doesn’t mean the other two aren’t great coaches.

So what you're saying is Saban shouldn't be on that list? I'm old enough to remember when Clemson won 12 games in 1 season. So they have added 1 game to the schedule and all of a sudden it becomes regular for a coach to win 9 or 10 games. Give Dabo some credit. it's not like there's a long list of coaches that are even close to that many years winning 9 games.
