And you think this is a good thing? The revenue would have to be made up by taxes somewhere else. They'd just make the average person pay more so Trump and his rich friends won't have to pay income taxes.

The least evil tax would be sales tax. Tariffs are essentially that.

Cost cutting makes the prospect of eliminating the income tax as something worth serious study.

The federal bureaucracy and their extraordinarily wasteful (usually counter productive) grants are the main target to save enormous sums.

Sales taxes on exports could be part of the program; drill baby drill offers the prospect for stupendously large exports of the world’s lowest cost natural gas. Even after levying a sales tax for exports of LNG, American LNG would still represent the valuable combination of low cost + politically reliable supply.

Corporate income taxes may end up being left in place. Doing so would allow the government to wield a ‘threat stick’ against businesses that the govt (Democrats and Republicans) wants to coerce. (I’m Not saying that this would be good.)

The first two are easy to identify components to render the elimination of the personal income tax as being potentially feasible.

It’s pretty simple. We can “make up the revenue somewhere” as you suggest if we can cut spending! Responsible citizens cut spending to avoid digging deeper into debt. Seems the govt could do the same. The problem is no one in govt has the will.
