Why the $EC is struggling recently

I finally put together a theory here. Ever since espn and cbs have given god status to the sec, they have not put together many solid teams. Given the talent going to the sec in recruiting and subsequently heading to the NFL, it still doesn't make sense.
However, a certain portion of athletes go to these schools and believe they have made it already because they are in the mighty sec. You'll also get your attention starved folks craving this conference. This is the thing Dabo preaches against. They have not accomplished anything by simply going to an sec school (contrary to what 99% of the world tells them). My guess is coaches in that league have a very difficult time getting their players hungry to give 110% (see clowney).
Clemson has top 10-15 talent, but Dabo has them all giving a 110% and playing as a unit not as individuals.

run the ball. WRs don't go to teams to block for four years and QBs don't go to teams to hand the ball to a running back.

Thumb up. It's true on some levels, but I think most of the SEC schools would like to be balanced. Julio Jones, Cooper, AJ Green. There have been a lot of WRs come out of the SEC. You're correct in that you're not going to get the opportunity to put up the numbers as a WR / QB at a Big 12 (Balyor, TT, TCU) or even a Pac 10 school. But I think scouts see beyond the offensive scheme they play in college. You have to run, catch and block at most better programs and that equates better to what is wanted in the NFL IMHO.

So, in saying that my point is there has been good WR and QBs in the SEC. If they're struggling it's because the focus is on who is going to be undefeated and most SEC teams won't be. It's still a tough conference. Don't kid yourself. The other conferences are tough too. People are just starting to realize that. Now we just need people to start beating the SEC in OOC games besides us.

Interesting theory but I think the most basic reason is there are few if any decent (high level) quarterbacks in the entire league. Dak Prescott, Kelly and the guy at Tennessee are about it, and they are only good, not great. As the earlier poster said, there are few really high level receivers, which is in part due to the lack of good quarterbacks. There are few running backs that really scare you beyond Fournette and Chubb. It appears to me that their teams are geared to beat each other, but now when they get in a battle with a team with equal talent but which can also score in bunches, they have trouble keeping up.

The SEC was ALWAYS "struggling".

Except for 2 oe 3 teams...pretty much like any conference. Don't buy into the SEC hype. It's only a few teams that are any good in any given year.
