considered "taking on intel?" You're downplaying and minimizing what he's said and done to erode trust in the institutions. Trump has repeatedly tried to impugn the integrity of the intelligence community. Your're not being honest if you don't acknowledge that.
Sometimes the only way to get at the truth is through leaks. If the truth undermines your administration, so be it.

The pretty obvious reason, which you're suggesting, is that it's "stupid" because people with access to secret information (and who can engage in surveillance) can leak that information in attempt to harm somebody. I don't think that's a good thing because it usurps the ability of people's elected representatives to govern them. Elected representatives have sovereignty given to them by the people; bureaucrats serve at the behest of the elected representatives and they can only usurp sovereignty. It really shouldn't matter if those elected representatives are perceived as being against them or not. Perhaps those elected representatives are being critical of them because of their usurpation.
Leaks are only a good thing if evidence of a crime is leaked, and no evidence of a crime has been leaked. You just seem to assume that something in these leaks will eventually lead to some hard connection between Trump and the Russians.

And I think it's mostly because he's such a narcissist that he doesn't bother thinking about how to do any of this properly. The speculation now is that people on his staff are leaking stuff like this because he won't listen to any of his advisors and the only way to get him to listen is to subject him to criticism in the press. This stuff with Comey seems like another product of his ego getting in the way of doing something that made sense, ie. even if you think nothing was done wrong, you can't fire a guy in the middle of an investigation into people involved in your campaign, and you especially can't do it if you've been pressuring him to end that investigation.
