NCAA has set a precedent now.

Jan 10, 2020, 10:29 AM

By allowing the gifting of beats headphones from famous people to all the players on a team as a reward/pay/compensation for winning, can they stop a booster from giving each x amount of dollars (with an inspirational message included)? Maybe it could be for beating their rival or winning the conference division/championship or even the completion of another month as players for the team. Should players now be expecting it? Looks like a slippery slope to me. But what do I know, I am not even sure what the definition of “is” is now.

The times they are a changing. Players will be allowed to profit off of their image
and autographs while in college soon.

But this has nothing to do with an individual profiting from their or likeness. This is paying a team for winning. It was about the winning not consolation for the OSU loss or the potential LSU loss.

Do you know what the specific rule states that allows gifting of this type?

The rule

Jan 10, 2020, 10:40 AM

States that players can receive a gift package of up to $550(wholesale value) for postseason games.

Evidently with the headphones the gifts are still below or at that value. Now then, I'd argue that the gifts should have to be provided by the post season game itself and that they should go to both teams, but that is not, currently, in the rules.

What about the swag bags given by the bowl? Is that part of the same $550?

I believe so***

I know they can receive a specific amount of gifts. These gifts cannot exceed a certain amount of money. Usually the Bowls provide those gifts. So is it possible that they received those gifts and now cannot receive as much from the bowls? That's where the question comes in. Also, it may be that OSU and LSU are allowed to receive those gifts and Clemson isn't because of the rigs our players will be receiving after the NC game. Both OSU and LSU will not be receiving those rings. Go Tigers.

I do not know the exact syntax of the rule. But shouldn’t the NCAA clarify why they allow this. If they were gifts to the team wouldn’t that means the players could not keep the headphones at the end of their time on the team and the team would have to account for all of them? If they are gifts/compensation to the team/players then the receiving party should be taxed on them accordingly, right?

LSU's compliance dept is abusive to LSU goals, punishes players to the detriment of winning. Suspensions happen too often.

You can bet that anything LSU players received has been cleared.

LSU former players donate to players' benefit, new locker room features absurd luxury. LSU works to get around the rules just as Clem does.

That locker room is hideous.
