The problems with "Camping Out."
Oct 9, 2017, 11:08 PM
|
|
1. Students trashed the campus and no one wanted to pay to have it cleaned up. Danny (7th inning stretch singer) and I spent 4 hours of volunteered time picking up trash with a few other people one Monday morning. We didn't get 1/2 of it up and it was blowing everywhere. Who is going to pay to pick up after these children? CUSG? CUAD? IPTAY?
2. Right before the window opens, 20-30 people will show up per tent. 1 or 2 people camp out, then their entire apartment complex joins the line right before go time. This lead to people going crazy.
3. "I'm getting my ticket, plus these 20 other students because they had class"...[hands a list of 21 student ID numbers over]. How fair is this to the next tent back?
4. Severe weather hits Clemson during the camp out, students are injured because they didn't want to leave their spot in line, so who gets sued?
Find solutions to those issues, and you'll have my vote.

There were plenty of tickets to go around then.

Sounds like there still is plenty to go around if 2100 weren’t used.

Students who don’t have any plans to go a high % will not show up. People don’t turn down free stuff

When you pick up your ticket they photo copy your ID and if their is a mess you hire someone to clean it up and divide the cost by number of tickets and send everyone who got a ticket a bill for the cost. You don’t pay you don’t walk, stop treating them like babies! They can be sent to war and die for our country so treat them like men and women.

Remember, these are the people who cried over a a fruit peel. It made national news.
Don't give them too much credit.

One of my fondest memory was camping out for away tickets for GEORGIA I think in 84 or 85. Met some great people and solidified others. No tents no issues. One person one ticket that’s all. Camped about 14 hours with tickets given out at 630. No classes to be missed. Sometimes newer is not better.

5. Students should be in class or studying, not camping out for tickets.***

Not all you learn in college is in a classroom.

Lol...oh the things we learn:
-fruit peels are always offensive -the national anthem has nothing to do with veterans -it's never my fault

So much simpler during those days. Less students. Gave out tickets at the library by class. If you were an upperclassmen there was no need to camp out. Just get there early in the morning.

Set up some kind of lottery system which leverages the tech resources the students are already using.
The system might look something like this: When students register for the fall semester, have them check a box to indicate they want football tickets. (Everyone might check the box even if they don't plan to go to any specific games, but that's ok.) For the first game everyone has an equal chance. If your name is not drawn you get 2 points. If your name is drawn you get a ticket but no points. If your ticket is scanned at the stadium on game day, you get one point. Don't show up for the game and you get no points. For the next game, those with more points get priority over those with fewer.
The specifics of the system may vary, of course . . .
