Collectives will continue to buy players (NIL) outside of the "Cap" as they wish. So, in effect there is still no cap as far as Teams' Boosters with deep pockets outbidding other teams for players.

So, did an employer ever "buy" you?***

We're talking about the athletes getting paid by an employer - the schools.

NIL money doesn't come from the schools.

NIL collectives don't employ the athletes.
The athletes endorse goods and services fir Tre NIL collectives, but they are not employed by them. Ergo, they aren't "buying" the athlete.

As I've stated elsewhere in this, an analogy would be like claiming that State Farm employs Patrick Mahomes. They don't the Kansas City Chiefs employ him.

His State Farm endorsements give him income, but they don't buy him.

Yes, I think that is basically a counter offer.

You interview for another position, you get the job with a income increase.

You give notice, current management asks you what they offered you, if you chose to tell them, they may counter offer.

This is basically buying you.

This has nothing to do with NIL. NIL is just in addition to this revenue sharing from the school now.

What you don't understand is NIL is available to all athletes not just football players. How the salary cap works out remains to be seen but what it should do is allow all athletes to receive some NIL employment and that is a good thing. Deals that are made through employers and collectives have nothing to do with the cap.

Actually, from the reports coming out, it appears schools will structure their own in house NIL collective to pay out revenue as NIL payments. This will postpone for awhile athletes becoming employees of the schools. They are also trying to find a way to get pay-for-play 3rd party NILs out of the sport (on that I think they will fail).

Correct. The “Employee” issue has not been settled.
