I’m pretty sure they still sell them at fresh market. Awesome chips. Had a bag of the Martin’s in PA in May as well. Excellent as always too.

My mom put our smacks in a Tampa nugget cigar box, those boxes were great for storage and they didn't take up much space

Our "rich" neighbor had them delivered once a week. If they came while she was gone, my brother and I would sneak over and remove about 1/4th of the chips from each can...fluff up the remaining...then go down to the woods for a nice snack. They were the best!

We had them delivered on Sullivan's Island in the 60s when I was a kid. Maybe it was because we were young but they were the best.

Respectfully disagree! There are several kettle-cooked chips that grind Charles’ Chips into potato dust! Miss Vickie’s is one, and though I hate to plug a yankee product, Cape Cod’s kettle chips are hard to beat.

Our idea of a meat and two veggies were boiled hot dogs with slaw and pintos. Just the dog. My mom invested in Charles chips bbq and I thought we were the talk of the neighborhood…came by after dark usually. That and a six pack of Mountain Dew for the week and I was to dumb to think I was not the sh-t.. good bless a single parent to make things look better!

Eat those frequently. Good with nacho or salsa dip. Have found the Food Lion brand usually have less of those too hard to eat. Years ago would occasionally pull one out of the bag that had part of the purple FDA stamp.

Enjoyed watching the episode on the History Channel series "The Food That Made America" about the development of the Lays business and its eventual merger with Fritos. Herman Lay was a G'ville HS grad who went to Furman on a football scholarship.

Absolutely remember them delivering to our house on James Island when I was kindergarten age in the late 70’s. Also remember the Coburg milkman, he would come in the afternoon and would slip me a chocolate milk every once in a while. Thought he was so cool because he had a glass eye, lost his eye in WW2.

When Charles hit the market, Mother paid a dollar a can, always with a warning to me: "Keep your hand out of the can," as she knew my great affinity for chips.
I think back to the 50's, how smaller bags of chips were a nickel, while the largest bags were 25 cents. Small, bottled Cokes were a nickel, large bottles were a dime. So, for 15 cents, usually scrouged up by reselling returnable bottles, I could feast!
Nowadays, I still consider Wise to be the best. They were smart some years ago, when they downsized to bags just under eight ounces to keep prices down. After Covid hit, they didn't have to finagle much at all, other than slight price increases, while most other brands had to resort to skullduggery.
As for Charles, I see them sold in most Cracker Barrels, and yes, they are still good.

Curious as to the time frame when potato chips were delivered and was it in the city? I grew up in a very rural area of Anderson County so there were no deliveries although our insurance guy came by every month to collect his payment.
