have to intervene in this college sports mess. It is a completely unorganized mess where anything goes. Bags of cash are determining who has the best team with the college coaches having become the admissions Dept. Athletes are no longer going to a school to play for a coach or the school but are taking the highest bid to play as a mercenary for at least one year. If things don’t go well then they are in the portal next year. Why can’t the Heisman trophy be bought from which school will pay the most?

They will always have to perform well to get the Heisman.

The Heisman has always been a popularity contest of "Beauty Queens" so to speak. I agree that an athlete will always have to perform well, but the pendulum is swung in this arena with media attention and marketing dollars spent by institutions on their candidate. I think this will only get worse as time goes on.

Some truth to that of course, but even that dude from Boise may win it this year. It's not that bad yet.

When Peyton Manning was passed over for it they should have done away with the Heisman.

Deshaun Watson was hurt because people used to bite earlier. Luckily that has been changed.

Manning wasn't that clutch at TN. Charles Woodson wasn't a bad choice.

I agree 100%. Thankfully, Tommy Tuberville is leading the charge to pass common sense legislation to keep things above board. Government oversight isn’t always a bad thing. College football needs it yesterday.

Tommy 'Idiot' Tuberville is too stupid to do anything.
The State governments put us in this mess. If the Federal can't make it better then the chaos will continue and things will get worse.

First, I don't trust the federal gov't to make competent decisions about such things. The secular progressive technocrats that populate much of the federal gov't and the mindset that infects the actual lawmakers that are ostensibly outside the bureaucracy is all very similar to the powers that be that have gotten college football where it is already. Utopian, busybody, meddlesome, overweening technocrats. They're the same types of minds, so I'm not sure I'd trust them to do anything effective even if they tried.
Second, I'm not sure a good legal argument could be made that the federal government has or should have jurisdiction to intervene just for the sake of saving the integrity and landscape of the sport itself. That's pretty sketchy.
And third, the federal gov't really already has intervened in a certain sense... not directly to "regulate" or fix the sport, per se, but in regards to all the anti-trust matters that have ended up changing the landscape. They didn't get involved to fix the sport, but inasmuch as they got involved to settle legal claims, they've already intervened plenty. I'm not saying I like it or even agree with the legal rationale(s) given, but they have already been involved in about the only aspect of it that one can even arguably claim they have jurisdiction over.

Do you not realize that every professional sports league in America operate under anti-trust exemptions? College sports of been excluded from this because of the notion of “amateurism”. But that was a fallacy overturned by the Supreme Court.
