Nothing more. The three undefeateds and Texas belong in the playoff. Don’t really care who thinks this or that team would beat another team. If the eye test is so good, why have a playoff at all?

America only sees highlights of some of these teams due to ESPiN only showing selected film. The POC has a broader picture of this, imo.

I think they should go with the most deserving based off of their body of work.

The eye test is exactly that. A big 12 team, Texas, beat Alabama on their home field by 10 points.
Body of work? If the SEC wanted to demonstrate that Georgia and Alabama are better than the other conferences this year, they can cancel three or four cupcake games and schedule three or four more games with power five conference teams. If they’re so good, they will beat them just like in a playoff.

That’s an analytic. It’s why the NFL uses it. No eye test necessary as it should be.

like the FOX guys were saying towards the end of the Mich game. This is another problem with the eye test: see what one wants to see (e.g. they were still getting Milroe figured out). But this is the flexibility they want.

Absolutely. If you look at Alabama, Yes they beat Georgia, but they also looked like crap the week before at Auburn...Alabama has won some ugly games this year. Also, Georgia struggled with GA Tech and had a very easy schedule. So how big was the win for Bama?

FSUs body of work places them in the playoffs. As it should be.

I hate it but Florida State will be out and may have been even with Travis. When you have 5 champions and only 4 go, somebody is left out.

All rankings involve the "eye test". How else are any of the initial team rankings in the first month of the season determined? You know -those games where FSU gets credit for beating a "5th ranked" LSU team on the opening weekend of College football and propels them into the early season top 4?
If not for the eye test then why isn't Liberty - a 13 win undefeated, conference champion - in the discussion of being in the top 4 of the CFP right now?? Simple - "eye test" says they haven't played as tough of competition as the Power 5 teams in CFP contention and as a result aren't being considered for the CFP.
There's nothing other than "eye test" to tell us Liberty doesn't belong. If we solely used the wins/losses column and conference champion label that some on here want to be the sole determining factor in the CFP - Liberty would have to be in the top 4 alongside Michigan, Washington, and FSU.
So please folks - have a little common sense and recognize that "eye test" is a necessary component of the team rankings. The CFP has to compare different teams, who have played completely different competition and schedules across the whole spectrum of college football and there really is no other way to reconcile/make certain judgements to determine who are among the BEST 4 teams without some amount of "eye test"....

It should not be part of the discussion. You don’t hear teams in any other sport making playoffs because of a freakin eye test.
You win, you’re in. That’s why you play.
FSU MUST BE IN

And what determined that SOS??
Dec 3, 2023, 9:30 AM

Eye test plays a huge roll in that SOS metric because you are comparing completely different conferences without common opponents. At some point we have to look at the AAC, C-USA and just say they aren't as good as the SEC, ACC etc.. because of the "eye test". When comparing different teams, unless they actually play one another, we don't know for certain who will/would win but we can make certain judgements based off of "eye test".
So "eye test" has to be in the calculus for rankings because how else can you factually discard/determine Liberty's actual ranking without them having actually played a common Power 5 opponent of FSU, Michigan, Texas, Washington, or Alabama?
You can't have it both ways in regards to eye test. You can't ignore the obvious offensive issues/flaws with FSU simply because they won 13 games and a conference championship against a Louisville team that got to the ACC champ game by playing the easiest schedule in the ACC. Yet at the same time are willing to use an eye test to discard Liberty by saying their 13 wins/conference championship are against lessor competition - i.e. the SOS metric which involves a certain amount of "eye test".

The other thing that is laughable is that they would not look to history to view the accuracy of the propaganda going into their decision. Since the initial year the B1G is 1-7 in Playoff games while getting shut out twice. It is relevant that they do poorly when playing against the best competition on the biggest stage, but the committee won't take into account that the media consistently over-hypes their teams.

No fan of FSU - 42 transfers - the best team money can buy - but they have dominated two decent teams, having to go with back up QBs that are not D-1 starter quality. That speaks volumes. Football is a team sport. The FSU team won all their games. Bama and UGa didn’t. My vote would be for FSU over Bama and UGa. I can see FSU’s defense holding Michigan to a couple of TDs. Maybe not Texas or Washington. Think it’s going to be Texas over Washington as national champs.
