The Clemson/UGA Game is a mulligan for both teams. Not Sure I like that

Thanks to the 12 team playoff and the top 4 conference champs getting a first round bye this is beauty contest for the recruits. A close game either way where no one gets hurt is the best possible outcome.

A. The 4 topped ranked conference champs get a by in the first round of CFP.
2. The SEC will smell blood if UGA looses. Part of the Bama mystique was that teams had beaten themselves before they even took the field. Look at how many fan bases were saying, "Just keep it close".
III. Dabo will have a much easier time convincing this squad that they belong on the field with anyone if you beat the reigning champ. "In order to be the man, you have to beat the man!" Ric Flair....Whooooo!

Just a few years ago every game was the season. One lose meant the national championship was out of the picture.

Now I suspect that 7-1 in the ACC will bring us to December with a chance at a first round bye.

Nope, the best possible outcome is a Clemson win, but a close loss would be a moral victory and wouldn't hurt our playoff chances.

Only if it's relatively close or looks close or we win the ACC

Yes, the 12-team playoff is stupid, but

worse than the playoff itself is the fact that it has that effect on everyone's thinking. The game matters, first and foremost, for the sake of the game itself. But now that there's this stupid, hyperactive playoff obsession that looms over every move anyone makes, we all just start thinking about "playoff implications" reflexively, rather than enjoying, hating, or reveling in the game itself. Even if we go 4-8, I'd enjoy beating georgia. Even if we go 9-4 again and miss the playoff, I'd want to beat them. The reduction of everything, every minute, to just playoff fodder is boring and is a regrettable but entirely predictable result, given the sports media's self-serving obsession.

I saw a graphic a couple months ago that said that Georgia could get in with as many as four losses. I fail to see how, but I think they had us at one or two losses and still able to get in.

Simple, lose all out of Conference games and win the SEC conference and they are in.

Shirley you can't be serious

Um, yeah, on paper that would work, just like saying we could lose all noncon games but win our league and still get in, BUT ...

I could see Georgia losing to us, then running the table, and they'd definitely be in.
Perhaps we discover as the season goes on that FSU really was the #10 team in the country but Tech was and is better. Maybe Tech beats Georgia (a longer shot than us beating them) and they're 11-2 and going to the playoffs.

If Georgia loses to either Tennessee Tech or UMass, then I assure you they have not beaten Alabama, Ole Miss, Texas or Tennessee. There is no conference championship in their future.

Come on, guy.

If we don’t win acc this win/loss can help/hurt, so yes it matters
