When the Gamecocks took the lead 27-24. I believe it was Phillip Logan, who caught a pass in the middle of a bunch of Clemson defenders then waltzed into the end zone. The Clemson offense had done nothing in the second half. I remember a big catch by Rick Weddington in the final drive. The catch happened in the opposite end zone, so I did not get a good look at it. I just remember the joy in the Clemson section.

17 years old and a high school senior. First Carolina/Clemson game. Diagonally across the field from that catch (Carolina sideline, on the goal line, with the Clemson fans packing the endzone just to my left). Turning to my Dad and screaming, "He caught it!"

1:08 left after Clark's TD. I believe Wedington's catch was a 3rd and 8. Clark had a catch on the drive, also. I had just bought a BetaMax and my dad recorded the game for me. Watching it the next day, after we scored Freshman RB George Rogers took the kickoff and after being blocked out of the TV picture Steve Godfrey came back and made a shoestring tackle on Rogers to save the game! I ran out onto the field after it ended and got a big hug from Marvin Simms running down the sideline. Got to share a beer with him after the '78 Gator Bowl win!

I think that that catch made the cover of Sports Illustrated. I still have a framed copy on the wall of my Tiger Man Cave.
I was in my Forty’s at the time!,!, youngster.

If you remember, the Gamecock players had on t shirts underneath their uniforms that night that they revealed after taking the lead late in the game. I think the shirts said “not tonight Tigers” or something similar to that. I bet many of you remember that. It made the win even more special.

I think the shirts said No Cigars Tonight, because Pell had started a tradition

of buying the team cigars after big wins. First time was after we finally beat Georgia between the hedges earlier in the season... had the bus pull over at a store on the way back and bought cigars for everybody.

CU. (It gets complicated when you're on the Five Year Plan). And in '93 to see Paul McCartney. I figure those two are about as good as it gets, so I'm never going back.
Got separated from my friends after the game and had to bum a ride back to campus. I had a nickel bag of Colombian gold in my sock, and I'm fairly certain that helped me secure transportation....

The first time I had ever bet on a football game. My coot friend (I was young and stupid - I'm no longer young), was counting his money. The look on his face when JB made that catch was priceless.
