“Lift Every Voice and Sing" was publicly performed first as a poem as part of a celebration of Abraham Lincoln's birthday by Johnson's brother John. In 1919, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) dubbed it "the Negro national hymn" for its power in voicing a cry for liberation and affirmation for African-American people.
The song is a prayer of thanksgiving for faithfulness and freedom, with imagery evoking the biblical Exodus from slavery to the freedom of the "promised land". "Lift Every Voice and Sing" is featured in 39 different Christian hymnals, and is sung in churches across North America.
Probably 75% of you whiners about this have sung it in church before...LOL.

You are the whiner orange. You said "probably 75%" is based on nothing. This is your assumption. You and me know what happens when you assume things. What you also said is based on early Christian slavery.

We do know what happens when you assume, you say that 130,000 some odd people die from a virus that probably hasn't killed a quarter of what they have said. At the end of this year I want to know how many people have died all together bc every other year when there isn't a "pretend pandemic" happening about 2.3 million people die a year. When we get the final tally we'll all see that they have been classifying every death as a covid death and I'll imagine a lot of people who have lost everything an having to feed their families through charities won;t be to happy. We're being told a lie and not many give a dam.n

My wife tested positive 3 times for COVID, and we lost her grandmother to the disease. Yes, it was a COVID death. So until you have any idea what you're talking about. Why don't you shut the #### up and go #### yourself you ##########.

So what if its called that? If black people don't feel they were properly represented in the "National Anthem" why do you care so much that they sing another song that makes them feel included? Do you know the lyrics to the other verses in the Star Spangled Banner?

Apparently that's where we are. 50 years later, the libs are promoting 'separate but equal'.
I have numerous friends who like to quote George Santayana: " those who do not learn from the past...blah blah." The problem is that none of us learn from the past, so it WILL be repeated. The only question is, will we learn any more the second time than we did the first?
If libs are promoting 'separate but equal', (the guiding principle of segregation)this whole BLM thing has set our attitudes on racial unity back to pre-Civil Rights days.
Except the conservatives would stand with Thurgood Marshall, and the libs would stand with George Wallace.

They are also going to play the National Anthem so where is
the hurt. Play both, I don't believe anyone will be hurt. I
don't see where anyone is giving up anything. Be happy, enjoy

Actually play all 3 stanzas of the national anthem and you'll see how racist the lyrics are.....there is a reason only the 1st stanza is sung....the other two, ugh.... There's no prejudicial undertones in Lift every voice....the star spangled banner, can't say the same.....
