The backup defensive unit doesnt deserve time if they are going to be terrible

The logic of some is that you are "building depth" by "getting guys ready", unfortunately the coaches may need to realize that the backups are just really bad, and will never be ready, certainly not in a game that matters, if they can't even clean up basic teams.
Also like my subject indicates they deserve no playing time if they keep screwing up.
On the flip side, i'm glad Dabo kept his foot on the gas, and didn't go into shell mode against Tony just because they are friends, Tony was clearly playing to the last second for points, which is fine with me, but lets realize there will be no let up by anyone, and there should be no let up by Clemson until the last second on both defense and offense.

Just standing there watching the other team score doesn't seem like it helps them get better for the future.

Coaching and practice. Apparently in the game they are not exhibiting anything they have been coached to do or have done in practice. You don't bring a HS players into a game with no coaching and practice and expect them to do much of anything. If you have an squad in the game who are 2nd and 3rd stringers playing against the opponents 1st team, your backups are going to get beat unless they are 4 and 5 star recruits. Which ours are not. So when our scrubs come in, expect to see lots of points given up. And when the other team does everything possible to score on them, take them out and run the dang score up.

I can remember Venables leaving in enough startes when the bench was playing to keep the game from looking bad. I think that there isn't enough leadership and experience on the field to teach them how to do better.

game experience and all that but this year they just look horrible. I wouldn't think even or 2nd and 3rd string should give up 21 points in a qtr to UVA?

I’m with you how can they be this terrible? Screw game time. Do they practice at all? Did they play in high school. They suck.

Have you watched the games the past few years? We haven't had the luxury tof playing the second and third team backups. Thus they haven't gotten the experience to step up. Dabo is trying to help remedy that this year when he has the chance again. Does that explain it a little better?

Part of the problem is thinking about it only as a squad

Yeah, as a whole they have busts and mistakes, but the idea is to get the individuals experience. Yeah, some of these backups will never be starters, but others are getting real world experience against live competition. Through that they both get better and sometimes reveal themselves to be real players ready for rotations with the first team
Additionally, putting them in reduces the chance of injuries to starters that can derail seasons.

You're right. They should stand on the sidelines and watch the entire game. That way when someone goes down and they have to step up they have zero game experience. That'll definitely make them perform like an All-American right coach? Go back to yelling at the TV, you're better at that.

It's called player development, for those of you who are posting on here that know absolutely nothing about football!

Coaches largely own this. If you are going to rest your fate on developmental players then you dang well better be great at developing them to play and be effective.

it's not like the old days. These kids don't get to do 3 a days in the summer and then do all kinds of stuff during the season. So getting them on the field is the only way to get film so that they can get trained up.
