The answer to the football transfer portal epidemic

Dec 3, 2021, 4:59 PM

The solution to the transfer portal epidemic may very well lie in the development of preferred walk ons. Here’s why:

Most guys that transfer are backups. Why not develop preferred walk ons who aren’t a threat to leave because they have more invested in the university? No player in their right mind will transfer here to be a backup, The answer may be to develop walk ons similar to the old Nebraska Cornhuskers blackshirts. Guys who aren’t starters, but are talented enough to fill a depth gap in a pinch.

Sorry your not going to win national championships of filling voids with preferred walk-ons. Dabo will have to utilize the transfer portal. It will be a have to not a maybe. If we don’t other teams will feel gaps over night. Like Georgia and Alabama. Both took in top rated transfers last year and filled gaps. I just don’t see being able to develop enough walk-ons to the elite talent you need. They are walk-one for a reason.
