The ACC: 5 Out of the Box Suggestions to

Improve the football image this off season?
That doesn't mean the ACC catches up or anything with the SEC or Big Ten but it improves it's image and product.
I got some but not 5:
Set up some Big Time matchups during the season in cities in your footprint. ( Example - Clemson vs North Carolina in Charlotte; Virginia Tech vs Pittsburgh at 3 Rivers Stadium, or Florida State vs Miami in Orlando.)
Move Media Days around and out of North Carolina. Let Greenville host it or Richmond, or Miami. Maximum exposure.
Use a sliding schedule and in the last 2 weeks of the ACC regular season match the top ACC teams making sure these teams have mixed it up with teams they have not played so far on their schedule.
Play as many OOC games you can with teams from the other power conferences.
DO SOMETHING! Innovate. Think outside the box! Maybe none of my ideas work. Maybe you have better ones. We know we ain't easily catching the money train but find a way to improve your image and become more competent or relevant.
Tired of the ACC and wish we could escape but for now look for ways to stay relevant to media markets and recruits. Go Tigers!!!

The ACC's image would be improved if the conference played better football.

This is it, right here. You’ve got to win those games. Clemson had three opportunities and went 0-3 against the SEC, which I hate, but there’s not much to say if you don’t prove it on the field

Smart post.
The risk of playing in-conference games away from either team’s home stadium is with those teams that already struggle to get their own fans to go to games.
Pitt vs anybody in the ACC at Three Rivers will be a poorly attended game. Same problem with a game between Syracuse vs BC in the Meadowlands. A near-empty stadium would be an epic embarrassment for the ACC
On the other hand, a Miami vs FL State game in Orlando or Jacksonville would have a great chance of attracting a big crowd.
Clemson vs UNC in Charlotte would attract a bigger crowd than the what UNC would draw from a home game.
GA Tech plays some home games at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. UGA and Clemson have been the ‘visiting’ team in this venue, as opposed to having GA Tech be the ‘honorary’ visiting team once 8n a while.
OK I’ll stop now.

The ACC actually plays reasonable non-conference games, they just.....

have not been winning them, particularly early in the season most years.
Also, the whole conference basically getting owned by Notre Dame the last few years with that 5 game agreement doesn't help either.

Pitt already plays all its home games at Acrisure Stadium (Heinz Field) after Three Rivers was demolished.

I've got a cool idea (Conference Playoffs)

ACC shores up the West Coast with two more teams to get to 20. Split into 4 pods of 5 teams by geography.
North - BC - Cuse - Pitt - Virginia - VT
Appalachian - UNC - NCST - Duke - Wake Forest - Louisville
South - Clemson - FSU - GT - Miami - SMU
West - Boise State (New) - Cal - Oregon State (New) - Stanford - Washington State (New) Notes: - 8 Conference games with a 9th game being the conference championship game. - Pods play each other (5 games). - Pods play 2 other conference pod teams alternating. Ideally you'd be able to arrange this year-to-year with home + home games so you'd have the option to pair the best teams against each other from each pod or create more exciting conference games.
TWIST - Teams won't know the final conference game until after the 7th game is played and here is how that'd work with a conference playoff.
- Top 4 pod teams play each other based on seeding (highest ranked vs lowest ranked). Higher seeds have game at home. Championship game at neutral site if preferred (ATL, Charlotte, Orlando, Las Vegas, etc.) though I wouldn't mind making these home games for the higher ranked seed.
- Remaining teams play last game against conference foes. This is where it can get interesting because you could have the higher seeds play each other from other pods to bolster someone's shot at an at-large bid if they didn't qualify for the conference playoff.
ACC could generate interest by having something like above that is different and interesting. You cover conference games coast to coast similar to B1G and that could increase revenue opportunities with the first conference championship playoff.
TLDR: - First Conference Championship Playoff. - Coast to Coast teams and pods based on geography. - End of the season twist that would create matchup interest.
