So some sports talk guy on SiriusXM last night when I was driving home said (the word on the street) Drake Maye was offered $5 million by Ohio State to transfer and turned it down. If that's the case got to give the kid credit, that would be hard to do even if you're a Tarheel legacy.

That was never the intent of NIL...

It was never intended to be used to lure players away from the schools in which they are currently enrolled but that is exactly what's happening because all of this NIL madness is totally unregulated and will be the ruination of college football as we know it.

It is not possible to regulate how people are allowed to sell their own personal NIL when the courts ruled that you cannot prevent (in other words regulate) someone from selling their NIL.
I agree with you that it turns the whole sport into the wild west. It is bad.

Players nil is worth. It is simply a bidding war. Just give them all a # on their jersey and make them wear a ski mask if they want to play college ball. Otherwise it is an auction that is well on it’s way to destroying team unity and becoming a semipro league that will need to be funded by different means or it won’t exist

There was supposed to be a zero contact rule from schools to players that are committed and playing in the program. Some penalty was supposed to be imposed.
The NCAA basically threw up their hands and decided to not chase any interactions based on NIL. This has already and will further the sport we all love.
The only way this changes is if coaches/ADs get together to force the NCAA to put in regulations and to enforce them. Those that opt out can play in their pwn semi-pro league but they would have to be penalized for contacting non-regulated schools by Federal law.

Yes. Only to reward the player on a current team with NIL. It is being used in buying players who are at one time to come play for their team after they have shown their greatness.

And at some point players are going to get paid NOT to play. A team like TCU is full of players who have probably never received much of anything to play. If some Michigan "supporter" came along and offered a few key players big money not to play, what's to stop them from doing so now that the NCAA has decided literally anything goes.

Or a player being able to have a commercial deal as in DJ’s case to a pooling of money used to recruit players. I don’t know anyone who supported it with the intent of it being a payroll used to attract high school kids who have not played a down of college ball

When all this NIL disaster began, I felt that there should be a NCAA-NFL hybrid league of semi-pro athletes bought by schools that simply purchase high school players who only play each other. That would place USC (the real one), Oregon, Texas ATM, Texas, UGA and OHS in one league. Let them play each other for a trophy. Then, let the remainder of the universities go back to offering scholarships and providing a free education, training, room and board in exchange for playing on an team meant for our entertainment. BTW, I am the kind of person who would rather see my daughter play in league softball than The Tampa Bay millionaire Rays, so, what do I know?

I have never heard anything about Ohio State and Drake Maye. I dont think Maye is in the portal so he is currently forbidden fruit. Now I have heard that Ohio State is losing out on recruits because they (their collectives) do not offer up front NIL. I believe someone posted about it yesterday with Damon Wilson. Georgia is rumored to have outbid Ohio State. The fans are all up in arms saying Ohio State needs to start playing dirty and offer up front nil or lose recruits to those that will. Personally, i dont believe a lot of what i hear about how much is being offered to whomever.

ND offered Drake 4M. It was a tense week for UNC football. Mack apparently pitched a fit with our doners to come up with money to keep him. Apparently they did but I'm guessing he left lots of $$$ on the table to stay.
Only very strong family connections kept him at UNC. I fear this will be the norm going forward.

15 lower ranked schools need to gang up on Ohio State. Each one of those schools could poney up enough to entice 1 of osu's best 15 to play at their school. Gut Ohio State's roster in a year.

Maybe, just maybe, and that is a huge maybe that the new NCAA President since he was a college athlete, wife and kids also that he will have the gonads to fight and get this crap stopped or at least get a cap put on it. This has absolutely gotten out of hand and is only going to get worse. Universities that don’t have the mega multimillion dollar millionaires are going to just dry up and never be heard of again in sports.

The courts really dropped the ball on this NIL ruling. We have rules we abide by everyday. The NCAA had a rule that players could not get paid then politicians followed by the courts created what we see today with their disregarding the NCAA rules. I'm not trying to make it political but let's face it one side of the aisle pushes this everyone is victims and are being taken advantage of narrative. This should have been nipped in the bud with schools coming out with a per player dollar amount invested in these players which is hundreds of thousands of dollars per player per year. Now we have no governing body controlling these blatant violations. Of course schools make a lot of money on football but that money helps keep the school afloat especially with non-revenue sports. It's ridiculous what grown ups have done to college football. Let's just make everything the wild west. Let's not have rules and regulations for anything. That's basically what the Supreme Court did to college football. Look I'm not for paying players only bc you have ppl that will always take advantage of it BUT if we have to pay the players I think there should be one dollar amount for each player capped at a certain dollar amount at the same amount for every school. You can do different amounts based on divisions and you absolutely can not have schools self disciplining, that's asinine. But it appears the NCAA have wiped their hands clean and said bump it, this is what y'all wanted now y'all deal with it and I can't blame them. I do know one thing, generationally we are getting dumber and dumber as a society. I mean a there are ppl that men are women and women are men and men can have periods and get pregnant. So maybe all thisis just par for the course.
