Say or think what ever you want to, its a free country, but I will promise you, if Chad could have gotten Watson to go to SMU with him, we would've been with out #4 as our QB. I believe that CM would have chopped, sliced, and axed all friendship ties at Clemson for that one Player. And I do believe that with all my heart and soul. Watson would have made CM look like a miracle man in his 1st season, and it would have boosted his recruiting by 10 fold his first season at SMU.

agree with comments about CM. However, DW's performance would be completely dependent on health, and as we saw his durability would have left much to be desired with the low rent O-Line at SMU.

That is great that DeShaun has a relationship with Morris. I just hope Watson will stay with us. I knew they was close. I know that if Deshaun leaves Clemson he would have to sit out a year. If I'm wrong about that please correct me. I feel that Deshaun will have a great career at Clemson, because Dabo had that kind of offence before Morris took over. Come on DeShaun don't scare us to death...you are a Tiger and I hope you stay a Tiger. Go TIgers.

Calm down folks! Watson's all in, just using his spring break to visit an old friend and mentor. If we are worried about SMU stealing players than we have a serious problem. I got about 3 or 4 shirts in my closet from non-power 5 colleges I went to games at. It's not cheating if you aren't emotionally invested.
But seriously, I don't see SMU as a threat, hard to say this without sounding arrogant, but they play at a lower level than Clemson. It's like cheering on your local high school team after moving to a new area.

I know it's a fad right now, and may be the thing for a while. However, defenses will adjust. They always do.
Shouldn't an offensive guy's motto be something like #score or #touchdowns or #redzoneefficiency?

Well,

if Chad hadn't broken his back to take any and every job that came open he'd probably be coaching DW right now.
I'm not buying this 'I wanted to get back to Tejus,' either. He interviewed for jobs without prejudice to where they were located.

Interviewing and taking a job are two different things. Not sure why folks are banishing CM for wanting to develop himself and grow in his career. He made it clear as could be he wanted to be a HC one day - and said this from the outset. Clemson was a step in that process. He helped turn something around that was in the toilet.
Be thankful for his time here and be more thankful that TE and JS are still here with their knowledge they attained under CM and for their recruiting prowess.
Still rings true, as it always will - it's less about the X's and O's and more about the Jimmy's and Joe's. Recruiting brings success as long as you have a good staff to facilitate it.
Go Tigers!

Time for Dabo to pull back the reigns on this situation. Wish coach best of luck at another school but for Clemsons current players to visit spring camp is a little too much. Rumors will start flying about this and we need no distractions right now. Those guys can keep their "special relationship" limited to phone calls. You know good and well certains words will fly when he's visiting SMU like recruiting tactics, and you want have to run as much, we won't risk your health to help your draft status, etc etc......if you don't believe that you're a fool!!

But I'm the bad guy?!
Mar 18, 2015, 2:13 PM
|

Everybody still think CM is a great guy!? I got mauled on this board last year for saying that it was time for him to go and we weren't really losing much since he didn't seem to care about how he left. His questionably appropriate professional decisions continue to prove that out.
As for DW, if he is unintelligent enough to see that if he stays here he can compete for the NC, then let him go to SMU. With their caliber of team and Oline his career will be one long chain of injuries and he will disappear into the history of what could have been. Meanwhile we will pick up the pieces with the 2 great kids that signed and have been on campus since January and life will go on.
As for "The Chad", if he indeed did accept DW as a transfer it would be a turd stain on his professionalism that would follow him like Bobby's bike wreck, Rich Rod's night flight, and all the other great shyster stories in college football.
I'd hate to see it happen. But it wouldn't be the first time an impressionable young person got led astray by someone they trust, and unfortunately, it won't be the last.

Wouldn't they have to sit out a year if they did transfer? I don't think they will, but wearing those SMU jerseys was bad taste on the part of all concerned. And as I recall, Chad wasn't exactly setting the woods on fire his last couple seasons here.

Anything but the SMU shirt. Visit your old coach and attend a spring practice, but don't put on that shirt. Geez. To be honest, I don't like it at all, even though I know there's nothing to worry about.
Now, Anyone who thinks that there is not "winking and nodding" on the "down low" and "what ifs" to DW from CM about DW transferring to SMU is kidding themselves. I'm sure that has been brought up in a "joking..hint hint" fashion many times to DW, despite what the NCAA rules may be.
