There was a lot of hype around him when he came over with Bowden from Tulane. He "installed" the spread / no-huddle offense, which was really the antithesis of Clemson style football back in those days. Sure, it was a long time ago and a lot has changed, but he was a big deal back then.

Yes, there was and he really set the stage for the offense we now run - well until this year that is. He was very innovative. He could probably share some ideas now of opening things back up a bit. Much as love the running game we can't expect to do what we learned to do the last 2 weeks when we get back to playing with the big boys.

He also fully expected to be named the head coach at Tulane when Bowden took the Clemson job -- and he was very open and outspoke about that when he didn't get an offer. All that just added to the drama and hype when he came to Clemson.

He was such a big deal when he was here as our OC. He did well at WVU and got the Michigan gig. It’s been downhill for him since then.
