Our ineffective O-line

Oct 3, 2021, 2:56 PM

It is interesting to me that these O-linemen, who can't block their way out of a paper bag, were all recruited also by schools that actually have good O-lines. Reckon they could not be being "coached up" by our O-line coaches. Not a new situation either. Did any one notice that during last year's NFL draft, we, as a CPF team, had ONE O-lineman drafted. Not Cool.

You and I were obviously watching different games. We repeatedly failed to convert 3rd and short and repeatedly tried to run on first down only to wind up with 2nd and 8 or worse. Dj only had sufficient time to go through his progressions occasionally. Our O-line is the root of many of our problems on offense.

The OL was an asset most of the BC game.

Oct 3, 2021, 3:31 PM [ in reply to Re: The OL was not an issue yesterday*** ]

Any time we have over 200 yards on the ground, the running game has been successful.

The OL did a good job last night.

This was not the game to point o if you need to criticize them

Re: The OL was an asset most of the BC game.

Oct 3, 2021, 7:03 PM

We busted a big run. We could not convert short yardage downs. No need to sell anything, we are where we are. OL improving, but far from where it needs to be.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

O-line has been the weak link on offense for years

Oct 3, 2021, 3:03 PM

Instead of correcting it, we just contently sat by while 2 generational QBs masked a lot of the issues. Now they are gone and we still have the same problem.

Re: Our ineffective O-line

Oct 3, 2021, 3:03 PM

OL did better than normal with the moves. Why can’t we make moves elsewhere. Or WRs need to be benched too. No separation, no want to. Our old WRs were hungry, angry, and wanting to compete. Maybe that’s just the leadership in that room. That comes down to the captains. A closed door, no coach meeting is needed. Take over this team and hold your brothers accountable for everything. All this #### I love my brothers and this team don’t quit. Your WRs quit on your QB multiple times last night. I know the throws weren’t there but y’all are all 215lbs fight for the #### ball. Make the difficult catches in traffic, make the 50/50 balls, it’s yours go get it, take it. Stop crying for flags on balls you should have caught.

We were down 3WR yesterday

Oct 3, 2021, 3:07 PM

4 if you count Taylor. Not much to move on to

Re: We were down 3WR yesterday

Oct 3, 2021, 3:15 PM

So you telling me we only have 4 WRs on the team? Come the heck on. All these scholarships and only 5 usable players… that’s a failure of the coaching staff

You mentioned WR

Oct 3, 2021, 3:19 PM

We played the bulk of the game with our 3rd-4th team TE and without 3 of our 4 top WR. True freshmen getting those snaps by and large.

I agree WR have underachieved, but yesterday we went with the only guys we had left

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: You mentioned WR

Oct 3, 2021, 3:25 PM

Ladson? Ajou? D. Collins? Brown? Swinney? Those kids didn’t play. Stellato get someone on the field that’s wants it.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ladson was hurt

Oct 3, 2021, 3:27 PM

Swinney and Brown are walk ons. Collins played a lot yesterday. No idea what's up with Ajou

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Ladson was hurt

Oct 3, 2021, 3:34 PM

Who gives a crap if they are walk ons so was hunter . At some point you gotta mix things up. If your Stars ain’t producing maybe a kick in the butt is what they need.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The coaches knew Renfrow was a star from the get-go

Oct 3, 2021, 4:03 PM

He was a “highly” preferred walk-on who just needed to get bigger and stronger. He was ready to go early on.

Swinney and Brown are both upper class-men who have scholarships only by the good graces of the staff.

Neither is any sort of answer and not to be compared with Hunter Renfrow by a knowledgeable fan.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: The coaches knew Renfrow was a star from the get-go

Oct 3, 2021, 4:21 PM

Obviously I know they aren’t better than Hunter. Nice jab there. I know better than that but anything is better than what we are seeing but hey keep the same sarcastic energy while our 5 stars keep dropping dimes.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You are correct that our 5-stars are not getting it done.

Oct 3, 2021, 6:49 PM

No argument there.

My response was to your suggestion that journeyman walk-on,WRs would provide a legit alternative ... because Hunter Renfrow was a walk-on.

There’s just no comparison. That’s all I was saying. Hunter was such an amazing exception to the rule even among preferred walk-on’s Most walk-on’s Are just not going to provide much on the field help. Ever.

I get your frustration with our talented, highly recruited guys.

I’m there too.

Striper - another question is why is half the team injured?

We've had a bunch

Oct 3, 2021, 10:57 PM

not sure how you prevent ACL's, head injuries like yesterday, torn biceps like with Davis. If we were having a bunch of hamstrings or something might be something to talk about. But most simply seem to be the result of football being a violent sport. We've just had a wave of them all at once.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He seems to be calling for more Will Swinney ... ?***

Thankfully even the coaches are in that

Oct 3, 2021, 4:28 PM

extraordinarily small group ??

He also said "who cares" that 3 of the top 4 receivers and top 2 TE's hardly played. Apparently he doesnt remember basically every true freshmen receiver outside of Sammy and Nuk

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Thankfully even the coaches are in that

Oct 3, 2021, 4:33 PM

So we basically have ZERO depth at WR. We run 3 and 4 wide ALL the time so you’re telling me we have no one outside our top 4 WRs right? That can come in a do anything right? No one. You’re right. Got kids sucking up scholarships sitting riding pine lol. You fans kill me.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What team is carrying more than 9-10 true

Oct 3, 2021, 4:54 PM

scholarship WR's. We have a TE and RB on almost every play. We play 3 WR most of the time. 4 (Ross, Williams, Ladson and Taylor) were down yesterday. Spector has been out all year. Stellato is being redshirted. That left us with Ngata, and B. and D. Collins as the primaries, the latter 2 being true freshmen.

How you can't see that is beyond me

Line was good last night. 230+ rush yards and no sacks given up. Not sure what game you were watching.

Re: Our ineffective O-line

I was watching the one where we took 4 field goals because we couldn't block well enough to convert 3rd downs.

I watched the one where passes were dropped in

Oct 3, 2021, 3:41 PM [ in reply to Re: Our ineffective O-line ]

critical situations like #10 hit right between the numbers at the goal line and our biggest TE dropping an easy third down conversion.

I watched the one where our backs found lots of running room to the tune of well over 200 yards on the ground.

The problems last night were most definitely NOT with the OL

The QB to WR/TE game is just not working on a fundamental level. The other team was playing pitch & catch for most of the night between the red zones. We could not execute the most basic elements of the passing game.

It was not the fault of the OL when the defense can sell out to stop the run knowing our limitations to this point in completing passes.

Re: Our ineffective O-line

We averaged 6.5 per run with 6 min left to go in the 4th this game. Then we call outside run plays with a stacked bc line and deep throws. The play calling and game awareness is horrid.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This comment tells me you did not understand what you…

Oct 3, 2021, 7:00 PM

were seeing last night, and more than likely are just parroting past comments you’ve heard. I saw an OL that played a heck of a game, big improvement.
