Actually men are still slapping the #### out of women in athletics in several blue states. Apparently left wing trash love their female abuse so much they'll defy federal instruction to cease and decist.

You got me.
Trump had tried for o er a year to defy SCOTUS order to not forgive student loans and to shift that burden onto the taxpayer.
Why no outrage about Trump back then?
Y’all are phonies.

Okay well hopefully that is stopped. If Trump can just accomplish that and can own the libs for 4 years, it will have been a success.

Honestly if the current amount of decline halts a guys retirement plans he wasn’t well prepared anyway. Also, let’s see where the market is at years end before we say it interrupts retirements.

Drops like we have had can alter their plans. The only reason we didn’t have a full on steep correction was because actual intelligent people got to Trump and had him reverse his plans. When Trump gets involved and puts the thoughts in his addled brain into action, there are negative consequences. The market reaction when he folded on his “strategy” tells you all you need to know.

Let’s put the political stuff away a second and let me ask you a question. I’m down about 8% from my high water mark. If a guy is planning to retire and an 8% drop halts his plans what is he going to do a year after he actually retires and the market drops 8%? Go back to work? We have a market correction every 1.1 years so if the retiree can’t handle that reality he’s in trouble.

For someone like me who has been self employed the strategy has to be different. There’s no pension waiting for me. If someone has a pension it’s a game changer and they have no worries about short term market fluctuations. For someone like me being ready and able to retire means you keep a year or two of income in cash. During short term market declines you pull from that rather than stocks. Once the market goes up ,and it will, you can pull from sticks. This downturn is a part of investing. As I said it happens every 1.1 years. I know, Trump , Trump blah blah blah. It’s always something every dang year. If a person is going to freak out every time it happens I sure hope he’s one of those pension/ social security retirees.

Somebody self employed with sufficient income should take a lump at retirement and buy an annuity to guarantee a minimum income. It's basically what my pension is, except I've paid into it cumulatively over the years instead of buying an annuity now. But, yeah, if you are happy with Trump intentionally tanking the stock market, bond market, and US dollar, you probably don't have enough sense to do that. The one benefit from Trump's idiocy for the people smart enough to do this is that the higher bond yields caused by Trump mean you can buy a better annuity with the same lump.

For a bigger bang, buy an annuity within a Roth IRA. I'm shopping now, but I think the Orange Turd is going to drive rates up some more before he's done.

I’ve thought about an annuity in the past. It can be a good option for some. It’s not for me. Maybe I’m more of a gun slinger.

OK. One more try to help a moron Trumper. You said you keep two years of income in cash. That’s decently conservative. At least try to invest that into a good money market account (3.5-4%), if you don’t understand annuities.

That’s exactly where my “cash” is. No, I’m not a conservative investor. Exactly 77% of my portfolio is in equities. Did you think by cash I meant a jar in the back yard? Geez.

Dude's going to get his own money back from an annuity for about 20 years and believe it's creating income, then lecture you on where you have your cash.

He really is a piece of work. I talked to my financial advisor several years ago about an annuity and asked him if I should buy one. He said “sure if you want to give your money away and give me a huge commission”. We laughed about it and he said no I would not do that.

Funny and somewhat true. They can be a good tool for the right situation, but the insurance companies aren't in that business to lose.

Good point. Insurance companies are in business to make money as you said. I even said an annuity is good for some but not others. I can actually see why some people would enjoy the peace of mind that comes with it and that’s perfectly fine. But it’s just not my style. I’ve always been an entrepreneur type. I prefer carving out my own way and it seems like that would be ok too. Can I lose my butt? Well, I guess so but that’s never scared me before.

I don’t think either of you understand annuities. The annuities right now return almost twice what the best treasury money market accounts do. I’m getting close to 4% in a money market, but can get close to 7% from a good annuity. It’s just a difference in who is managing the funds. For some annuities, you don’t have to withdraw, so a simple person wouldn’t know the difference between that and a money market, except for the deferred taxes on the interest. To be fair, I never considered them before, but I’m sitting on a big chunk in my 401(k) earning less than 3%.

If you take the same cash out of the money market and put it into a good deferred annuity, not only will you earn significantly more interest, tax on the interest is deferred until you withdraw. Pick one with no surrender penalties if you think you might need the money sooner.
