If I were him I'd prob stick around try and get another ring and transfer after but that me.lol guess he happy with the ring he's got and going to be moving on ,wish him the best of luck I'll be rooting for him. this clears up a scholly to use in this recruiting cycle I would think tho so that's a positive.

Usually in these cases, a player sees much better players ahead of him and realizes that his playing time is going to be limited. Don't know this, but just my guess.

We've made other "project" players, some with a much higher ceiling than Amir Trap earn their scholarships as prefered walk-ons.

Well, since Amir Trapp couldn't compete and is no longer on the team, it appears that perhaps the decision to spend a scholarship on him may not have been particularly wise. So a fan "wondering" why he wasn't simply asked to walk on is still a legitimate consideration. I totally agree that Dabo knows what he's doing and about now, I'll bet he is re-thinking his decision to put Amir Trapp on scholarship.

And he looks horrible. Just does not look anything like his dad. James was tough, brash and fast-fast. It is awfully hard to play some of those tall receivers at 5'7". He is Charleston Southern bound.JMO.

Not the worst news I’ve heard all day. This has been in the works for a while. Trapp was never sufficiently talented to get meaningful time on a national championship contender and it showed when he was pressed into action this year. Best of luck to him wherever he lands.

I agree with the other Tigers fans who said, " not the worst news I've heard all day "! For me, not by a long shot! I wish him the very best; in fact go on and do big things so they can call you "the Clemson transfer"! Some of you who did not think he should have been offered should not be insulting his decision; but rather be rejoicing in the fact it opens up a scholarship. We only have what 7 seniors plus a couple juniors who will likely make the jump to the league right. So, we were looking at another small recruiting class! This plus some other likely departures means we can go after some kids we didn't have room to offer until now. I mean, this is perhaps, the best news I've heard all day! As I look at the ESPN 300 many of those FL, Ga, NC kids are waiting to sign. I can't help but think they are waiting for that Tigers offer to come through. With the strength of three straight playoffs. Two of which the Tigers enter as the #1 team; you know these kids want to sign here. Plus, over the years how many kids did we lose to Mimbo(multi-millionaire 75 Jimbo) Fisher and FSU? Taggert can recruit but Bowden and Fisher had the ball really rolling down there with regard to talent. Be a great time to get some difference makers in thin positions.

After watching him get burned to a crisp multiple times against NC State, I forgot all about him.
A winner never quits, and a quitter never wins. And if you leave your team in the post season, two weeks before the Sugar Bowl? You’re a ####### and don’t even deserve a goodbye.

He's still going to have to sit a year or go to a lower class team (FCS or DIV II). Him staying through the playoffs wouldn't change a thing on this. Makes me believe their is more to this than He and Dabo wants to put out. Wish him luck. Go Tigers.

I’m sure there was / is. I remember watching Dabo chewing him out on the sideline in the middle of a game after he was pulling on Coach Reed’s jacket begging for play time when we were severely thin at CB and Ray Ray was in. There’s a video of it somewhere out there on the interwebs.

If it is more to it, these guys should know by now that Dabo is going to be the only decision maker in his program. If someone feels that they aren't getting enough playing time, they should work harder even if it takes working out by their self with no one around if that is what it takes. I know that if a person is serious enough, they can train their body to be what ever they want it to be. But you dang sure got to want it, or it will be impossible. Case example, Hunter Renfrow!!!

Lol. Then he should have stuck around for 2 more weeks, supported “his team”, and added a few rings to his collection. Quitting on a team with 2 weeks left in the season is ridiculous and doesn’t bode well in the eyes of any future coach, tough guy.

Clemson starts classes Jan. 10th. So, most other schools probably start around the same time. Staying through the next two games and getting back to Clemson arounf 4:00am Jan. 9th, isn't conducive to enrolling for Spring semester elsewhere.

...the extra expense of a carrying a player through two more games isn't worth the money. if he wasn't going to play meaningful snaps, he might be a liability in practice getting the team ready for Bama... i wish him all the best, but you got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away, know when to run... i think Dabo's got that down pat...

according to the playing time breakdowns, it looks like his last action was 17 snaps against the Citadel. Sakerlina and Miami were blowouts and he didn't play.
Did he leave after the Citadel game? Or did he leave more recently because he didn't play in those games? Hmmmm...

Come on man...have to trust that the kid did his best in that situation...I'm sure he was pressed into action before he was ready...or maybe he would never be ready, who knows. Always hate to see someone feel the need to transfer, but may be the better thing for him. Meanwhile, he chose to do so early enough that we can give his scholarship to another person in the 2018 signing class if needed (or give it to a walk-on for next year and use it in 2019). Given the depth chart at DB, this will help spread it out a bit more evenly over the classes (especially if we use that on an extra DB this year).

Would have starred at many great smaller schools. Our coaches need to do a better job with managing the situations with these legacies when it is not a fit.

I wish him luck ... hasn't turned out well for any recent tr

This hasn't turned out well for any recent transfers. Pagano and Baker left for more PT and each only got 6 tackles on the season. Both would have had more PT at Clemson this year. Our secondary was thin after several injuries and losing somebody sucks.
The only good thing about this is it gives us one more scholarship right before signing day and we can balance out this small senior class.

And thank him for his hard work the past few years for our team. Some of the stuff I am reading here is disheartening to say the least.

Don’t think James got a medal

He was scheduled to run in the final relay, but last minute Carl Lewis decided he wanted to run and stole his spot. All athletes who ran in qualifying and final relays earned a medal, but James was supposed to run in the final only.

I hope this young man finds success wherever he goes. Thanks for being a Tiger, sorry it did not work out for you.
