Iran, even more than Russia and China, was overdue for a military comeuppance for their interference in the free world. On principle, our engagement, especially as limited as it is [so far], is a response, not an initiation.

The Houthis (basically Iran) got farrrrrrrr too much leeway under Biden, and as far as I'm concerned, this is somewhat a continuation of our warranted response.

I'm more concerned about the timing and impact, as a recent Zeihan drop (haha, eat shit Solos!) indicated the Iranians were at least a generation away from being a nuclear threat, and regime change via military might is a lost cause. So, I'm not sure the juice will be worth the squeeze if Iran escalates in a way they've shown great promise -- terrorism by proxy. A surge in isolated domestic terrorism would absolutely be disastrous. It would seem a more prudent course of action would have been to quietly support Israel, or at least not chest thump over the next few weeks. I appreciate OldManRiver's optimism that this may be the crescendo for both sides, but I do think with optimism has to be grounded in realism that we may have kicked the hornet's nest for no good reason.

But again, on principle, it doesn't bother me that much.

What does have Jimmy's jimmies rustled though is that as feckless as the Iranian campaign seems to be on impact, and the oversized risk of escalation that it can bring, is being cheerleaded by people who spent the last three years undermining support for Ukraine in the name of "staying out of other people's business." There is absolutely no convincing me otherwise that the anti-Ukraine nonsense from the GOP was nothing but a scapegoat to justify their contempt for Ukraine because Trump didn't like them, against the clear moral duty and objective geopolitical benefit in crippling Russia's ambition. Nobody except MAGA themselves was convinced the GOP had suddenly become America's anti-war party. It was, and continues to be, purely political smoke masking the moral sin committed against Ukraine, and the room finally cleared with bombing Iran.

What the GOP did to Ukraine is unforgivable. I will never donate to another federal Republican again. And it is made all the worse by how quickly the ruse dropped as soon as Trump did what we all expected him to do -- get America involved in a foreign war.

The Iran strike back looked like they want to negotiate. They sent the same back to us as we did to them. I hope they do so all this fear mongering can stop.

If we could drop a few bombs in Ukraine and more or less solve the problem ,as we have hopefully done with Iran, your argument would hold more water. While we do support Israel to some degree we certainly aren't spending the kind of money we are apparently expected to spend forever to end up in a perpetual stalemate with the enemy in Ukraine. All of this while half of what we send simply vanishes into thin air never to be seen again. And since most of the left appears to irrationally hate Jews and/or Israel it's pretty rich to cry about the right not embracing an election canceling, journalist murdering dictator like Zelensky who has suddenly gotten filthy stinking rich since we started funding his war.

But it's not even our lack of support for Ukraine that is the most shameful (though it is, to me). It's that we can't just say that we don't have the money or that we really need Europe to become the military power they have the economies to be. We had to act like there are no bad guys, or they are both bad. It's laughable to anyone who isn't brainwashed. We have to cozy up to murderous dictators like Putin or Lukashenko.

Really shameful behavior.

about Trump bombing Iran and saying that that was not what they signed up for. But then there are a ton of people arguing as to why it is still aligned with the MAGA isolationism.

I like Zeihan but I don't take him as gospel. Honestly, I trust Israel's intel a lot more and, regardless, they are a country run by a hateful nut job that is trying to make a nuke. I'm okay with attacking that whenever it makes sense. Decisions can't be based on what terror the...er...terrorists will do, or we'll never do what needs to be done. But we shall see if the proverbial juice was worth the proverbial squeeze, as you say.

Agree with all your other comments. Republicans have become Russia loving Trump boot licking garbage. Very embarrassing for a conservative.
