Stupid technical question

They are blaming the tech difficulties on the incoming bad weather. If it is a satellite feed, how is that effected by the weather? Sorry for the ignorant post.

We used to have Dish Network and we'd lose our signal before/during intense thunderstorms. I imagine they're having similar issues...
