"Band Day in Death Valley" was made up of what seemed like

an invitation to every high school in the upstate to participate. With all the yellow buses at the game, the parking lots looked like a high school.

That's what has made Clemson what it is.

I apologize to all those that don't remember Clemson's history well enough to even include Steve Fuller and Jerry Butler on a list of all time Clemson greats (even though their names are on the stadium facade), but Clemson football didn't start in 2016 and there were days like the one pictured that contributed and ultimately made Clemson what it is. Inviting all the bands in the area to be on the field probably caused at least a few that day to become Clemson fans for life.

In those days the hill was where children played. One Saturday the loudest cheer came when 6 year olds were playing football on the hill (no supervision) and fans were paying more attention than to real game.

Brings back memories of 1971 or somewhere around that time when our T. L. Hanna Band from Anderson participated In Clemson band day. I played trumpet. That was a big deal back then. We arrived at the stadium early Saturday am to practice for the halftime show, and had been practicing the music for weeks prior. Quite an awesome sound with hundreds of musicians playing together. Thanks for the pic!

As a former Tiger Band member (1962 - 1965), I was a part of Band Day my freshman year (1962). I led my High School Alma Mater Band (Spartanburg High) to the practice field that Morning. Thanks for sharing the picture. Brings back some great memories.
