Students at bb games: I wonder if giving them better seating

and concentrating them in one area, rather than splitting them up in both ends would be better?

Once the team starts consistently performing, the students will get involved. Success breeds success.

I wonder: if the dookies or tar holes were inconsistent, they wouldn't have the student support that they have?

I agree ... put the core group of enthusiastic students who do show up every game along the sidelines behind the benches and let them go crazy. Replace the seats with risers. If 1,500 students are standing, yelling, and jumping up and down all game long like at Duke, it will help be beneficial both to the live game atmosphere and the impression fans and recruits get on TV.

If you want Students at the games, then open the gate 2 hours before game and let the students have one side of LJ 1st come, 1st seated, fill it in. 30 years ago when LJ would be packed the Student section was one entire side of the court! It was rocking!
I think there were no reserved seating for the NIT games and I though LJ was packed! The students are undervalued by the athletic dept!

You're right, when I am at games or watch them on tv

it is always older fans who have all the good seats around center court and a lot of times those seats are empty.

Like you, I remember when the Dookies or tarholes came to town, the place was crazy and the students were right up to the boundary lines.

I quit going to basketball games, because I could not get there for all games, and when I bought tickets they would be in the rafters and there would be a thousand empty seats between me and the floor... I would rather listen to the game on the radio.
They could open one end to general public with game day purchases or on call pickup tickets but first come first serve.Or put all the season ticket holders on one side like they did when I was in school and let the rest of the arena be first come first seated.
