Good example of the lunacy of the left
Dec 28, 2020, 1:32 PM

I hope TNet libs will agree with the insanity of this situation but maybe some believe the 15 year old girl needs her life cancelled. I could never be a part of a movement or belief system that causes this type of needless grief.
The root cause of this stuff are the shortcomings of Jimmy Galligan (or insert name of your favorite fake progressive) and his own mental problems - jealousy, inadequacy, probably has a sucky life and is too stupid to get a good job/income, spends too much time on social media, etc. so he makes himself "feel better" by attempting to elevate himself and his virtuousness above others. A pathetic POS.

That's what I got out of it, too.
Takes a real lowlife to share a video of a 15 year old kid saying the n word, three years later. And even more lowlife "journalists" celebrating it.

You're better than that.
If you attack the kid who shared it, you're missing the message and engaging in the same behavior y'all claim to denounce.
The NY Times didn't "celebrate" it. Read the article. Don't trust Fox on this.

I read the article. The one word, reckoning alone says she deserves it.
We'll have to disagree on this issue.
If you told me something privately at 15 and then I announced it publically years later in order to destroy you, im at minimum a #####. Just how I see it.

A reckoning is a judgment. That doesn't mean the Time is saying she deserved it, nor are they celebrating it. It's good, factual reporting. I'll entertain actual examples from the article to the contrary, however.
Hey, I'm not a fan of kids getting hammered for stupid #### they did at 15. I'm thankful social media didn't exist when I was that age. I don't know I agree with what her classmate did, but that doesn't make him a bad person. Again, she recorded this. She shared it. She has no one to blame but herself.

You know I've shared things here about how my special needs child is picked on, sometimes he has came home in tears.
But, I don't think I'd ever try to publically humiliate and shame one of the kids years later. I'd never try to ruin their big day, rather it's a job, the school of their choice or whatever.
Maybe I'm in the minority, here.

You know doing that won't solve the problem. We're looking at the actions of two kids, but some in here think only one is worthy of being excused. Again, I think this boy will regret doing it one day. His judgment likely isn't much better than hers when she said the word. But she's not a saint here and he's not a villain, and he's not deserving of the attacks, either.

She's not a saint. That's all there is to it. I didn't draw a comparison to her and the likes of Richard Spencer, did I?
I doubt his intention was to make her a national pariah but instead to ruin her chances at Tennessee. As stated, I think he'll look back one day and wish he hadn't done that.

Into college. No big deal I guess. I don’t think anyone’s pretending she’s a saint, but I find the whole “let’s wreck some people’s lives for awhile over some ultimately trivial ########” thing pretty appalling. And he threw his own dad under the bus, LOL.
I’m not stomping around outraged or anything, but I truly don’t see how anyone can come out of this story looking at this guy as anything but a huge #######. She shouldn’t have posted the video, and that was really stupid....but should her house be burned down too? Maybe her dad should get fired? But he’ll regret it one day, so it’ll be ok.

I have to say that I don't condone his actions. But he's a kid, just like her. And ultimately, if you record yourself doing something stupid, that's on you, not the person who shares it. The onus of personal responsibility rests on her. Does she deserve to have her life destroyed? Certainly not. But don't blame others for sharing something you recorded and sent out.
I haven't said anything is "okay" with his actions. That's you putting words in my mouth and, once again, getting hyperbolic.

Her life for years. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen you call people psychopathic for a lot less than that.

Actually, he didn't hold it for years. We all--including me--got that detail wrong. I went back and looked at the article, and it says he had not seen the video until his and her senior year. So he actually didn't plot this out over three years.
This doesn't appear to be a sinister plot to destroy someone but rather more of a "gotcha!" moment that became a bigger ordeal than he likely planned. Again, I think he'll regret that decision one day.

and you won't have anything to worry about" card, and down playing the very real consequences this girl and her family will probably face for the rest of their lives. All because of what? Because this little ahole decided he wanted to be a social justice warrior for internet fame? It's not good enough that he might feel bad about it later, I'm sorry. That doesn't erase the damage done. What do you think this kind of stuff does to race relations?
I get the sense that you somewhat feel he was justified in this because she used the n-word, even though it wasn't even used in a malicious context. The benefit of the doubt you're giving him seems insane to me. I don't think you'd be so cavalier if it was your kid caught up in it. This quite literally could happen to anyone with a pre-teen/teenage kid.
Granted, I also think the college administrators should be shouldering a lot of the shaming.

She records herself using a racial slur, sends it over a private chat, and it gets out to all her classmates. Then a fellow classmate, a black kid who has been fed up with racism at his school, makes it public years later, and he's now a prick?
I'm thinking some folks here need lessons in personal responsibility.

Groves: Sweet little innocent girl who did something stupid at 15 which, you know, she recorded and shared.
Galligan: Evil vindictive 18-year-old prick who dared to make that same video public three years later
Does that sum it up?
Doing something stupid like recording yourself using a racial slur is completely forgivable at 15 but sharing that same video at age 18 isn't forgivable?

And I don't disagree that it's likely vindictive. But attacking him and calling him names is engaging in the same behavior folks in this post are claiming he did.
I think years from now, he'll look back and have a different view of his actions. Just as she will with hers. I don't think either of them are worthy of being attacked.

I was arrested three times before I was 18...for some fairly serious stuff.
I'm...very glad that stuff was expunged from my record, and that I was allowed to learn from my mistakes.
Ruining somebody's life for something they did at 15 is not cool unless the kid is just plain a psychopath and can't be helped.

I've shared this before and will again.
My ex wife filmed videos for my viewing pleasure back in the day. Now, if I decide to share those videos, what does that make me? Is it still all her fault because after all, she is the one who filmed them?
Should I send those videos to the media or to UPS, her current employer?
I do believe the girl shouldn't have filmed herself but she was 15 years old. My opinion may be different had she been 25 years old but she was just a kid.
And yes, the guy clearly wanted to create as much damage as possible for her. He is a prick.
Side note: if the money is right, I'll be a total ####### and share the videos. ??

That's a huge part of the problem. It's openly part of the popular culture they all want to be part of, they use the word, then they are hammered for it. It's total ########. Society needs to decide if that word is acceptable or not and apply the standard equally and fairly. It's wrong that this girl was denied acceptance into a school on these grounds and under these circumstances.

Doesn't make them any better than Fox News though, or News Max, or OAN, or whatever else. I don't participate in any of it really.
Also don't participate in the Lunge snap, although it is entertaining. Heaven forbid I get rich or famous some day and something comes back to haunt me. Nope, don't FB, or anything else.

I think it's classless when anyone says it, but you keep making assumptions. You are good that.

Personally, I think we should allow teenagers to learn and move on from their mistakes, but I'm not losing sleep cause someone couldn't go to their dream school.

What the faux outragers aren't noting...

Is that the girl recorded herself and shared it on social media first. I don't think her life should be ruined, but she has only herself to blame.
Maybe we need more lessons for teens on not recording themselves using racial slurs.

People do and say dumb stuff on line all the time. I can probably do a quick google search and find a few who have said something on twitter or facebook that resulted in them being cancelled without hesitation.
The first thing people want to do is get that other person fired, which is something I've never understood. And I've always wondered..should the elimination of someone result in a lifetime ban from working, or is it just THAT current job? Is one job enough penance for saying something dumb online? Or is death really the correct punishment? What is the correct punishment for a 3 year old dumb tweet from a tweener?
I'm glad there was no twitter of facebook or camera phones when I was growing up. I'm sure I did and said a lot of dumb things. I would probably never gave been allowed to work in my entire life.

So here's the article.

I'm going to go ahead make some points/assumptions. Correct me where I'm wrong with each point.
1. You didn't read the NY Times article but instead got suckered in again by faux outrage generated by Fox News. It's probably definitely a TLASDR (Too Long And Smart, Didn't Read) situation for you. 2. That Fox article is atrocious reporting. Will cite it line-by-line upon request if you want evidence. 3. I'm not a big fan of a kid having her life ruined, even with a dumb mistake like this when she was even younger. Kids are kids, and we all did stupid #### when we were kids. What does appear to be the case is that you and Fox and the other people who didn't read the actual article seem more upset at someone pointing out a person used the N-word rather than the fact someone used it, which has been quite a trend here with some people. It appears her school has some serious unaddressed racial issues, and this one student (whom you are also trying to attack in the same way you criticize him) had enough. 4. Again, your attack of this other kid shows your hypocrisy. It can only be assumed that you are glad this pretty little white girl said the word, and you're so mad someone called her on it that you want THAT kid's life destroyed. That highlights your extremely low character, wanton hypocrisy, and absurdly partisan hackery. I doubt this girl is a POS. I doubt this boy is a POS. But you certainly are one as evidenced by this post. 5. The girl recorded herself and put it on social media first. Private message? Sure. Does that mean she deserves her life ruined? No. But who is to blame for it? Her. Only her. No one else. 6. Read the actual article below and tell me, with specific examples, how it's "celebratory".

Regarding point 2, Fox's sole contribution to the story was to find two twitter accounts that reacted negatively to the story.

NY Times actually did a pretty good and balanced reporting job (and even raises issues over whether the boy should have released the video again), and Fox comes jumping in to trash it all the while exercising #### poor journalism. Because they know people like NC_Tiger_ will react to it without bothering to read the real article.

Sounds like she wasn't being racist at all and just didn't realize she couldn't say the word even in that context. I think the dude should have just moved on. He looks like a chick by the way.

I can't read the NYT w/o paying, so obviously I'm not going to do that.
Catahoula says the situation is unfortunate, but she recorded it. W T F? It is true she recorded it, but three years later this a-hole purposefully makes a big deal about it.
If this happened to one of my kids, that MF would have a giant problem on his hands. Who is this jerkoff to bring this up after three years? I would make it my life's goal to put that POS in his place. I hope he gets what he deserves...after he has a good job and promising career someone digs up a 10 sec video or photo that gets his a$$ canceled worse than the young lady.
Cat is the biggest progressive on the board. No saving him. Completely warped sense of reality and right and wrong. Will defend Jussie Smollett to the end...that's all you need to know.

Well, first, you've pretty much secured the title of biggest idiot on here. "Progressive" isn't an insulting term, and I'm afraid I'm not the biggest one on here. I still got some pretty backassward ways about me. But as far as being progressive--you know, making progress as the word suggests--that's not an insult.
You're kinda newish on this particular board, but I did the exact opposite of defending Jussie Smollett. Just the fact that his name is "Jussie" is enough to not defend him.
As for this:
If this happened to one of my kids, that MF would have a giant problem on his hands. Who is this jerkoff to bring this up after three years? I would make it my life's goal to put that POS in his place. I hope he gets what he deserves...after he has a good job and promising career someone digs up a 10 sec video or photo that gets his a$$ canceled worse than the young lady.
Well, you're an angry little man, and no, you're not ever doing anything to anyone. Ever. Let's again not forget you had one of the most embarrassing P&R posts of all time: Advocating the imprisonment of people for different political opinions and basically a civil war. You can't wash that stain off you, and no one on this board can ever--EVER--take anything you say seriously. You canceled yourself.
Finally, answer this question: Who is responsible for recording themselves and putting it on social media? Anyone other than the actual person?
If you think someone else is to blame when someone shares a video the person in question recorded, then I suggest actually being a real conservative and advocating personal responsibility.
You also haven't read the article nor have you cited how it's "celebrating" what happened. Why? It's too long and advanced for you to read. Prove me wrong.
