I'd argue most here would agree. I think everyone here agrees that no one under 18 should be allowed to have such surgeries.
So, if you agree it's a mental illness, then let's stop ostracizing and demonizing these people. We don't do it to dementia patients or people who are depressed and the like, do we? Stop treating them like pariahs and let's work on getting them help.

we should be calling out the desire to normalize, and even celebrate, a mental illness.
We don't treat any other mental illness this way (that I can think of at least).
And, maybe even more importantly, we should all be standing against the move to silence opinions of those that disagree with the normalizing behavior. The silencing of opposing ideas (on a whole host of topics) is more dangerous than the actual normalizing actions.

I agree here. Too much of it is coming from a weird Christian/sin perspective, though, and that part needs to end. And they need to stop trying to pass laws against 18+ people who fall into this group.

I'm less concerned about 18 plus, then again we don't treat any other delusion this way. I guess it could be akin to non essential plastic surgery.

suicide rate of people with gender dysphoria vs those with gender dysphoria that also get surgery.
Also, if there is data to be had, it would be good to see how the overall trans suicide rate is changing. I hear a lot of people claiming it's increasing and at the same time acceptance of trans has changed dramatically...which could lead one to ask why is the rate increasing when the acceptance is increasing.
