Perception of their deserving #1 ranking by many..including Coots, Bama fans, many national fans, media, Tar Heels, etc.
Strange how having a possible 12 pt win is much more significant than a 5 pt win.
I too felt lessened even with the Win!
It's getting gritty time & just hope Team has some gas left for ACCCG with a streaking Heel team!

If a Carolina fan says a word just laugh and if you wish to take the high road congratulate them on 2 moral victories in a row. If you chose to be me shot them a 2 bomb and tell them they robbed us of a true state championship by losing to the Citadel, I said the Citadel for goodness sake. Then throw a souvenir cup at them.

And the refs swallowed their whistle. They had to hold like crazy to get those passes off, even with a 3 to 4 man rush. Refs didn't call them, and we still won.
No real problem there.

I'm sure you know better than anyone that there will always be naysayers. Even if we win the national championship, there will be those who will say that our opponent gave the game away, or others who will say that Clemson would not have beaten Team X, Y, or Z. There are a lot of people, who for various reasons, hate the fact that we are ranked #1.
I live in Virginia, and a couple of people at my job have made backhanded comments about Clemson, and I could just tell that they don't feel Clemson is deserving of its ranking. One of my buddies at work laughs at the way I fire back at them with my own backhanded jabs.
Someone at work had the nerve to say to my face that FSU gave the game to Clemson by starting McGuire. I told the guy that Golson would have likely turned the ball over, had less experience with their playbook, and that McGuire would more than likely remain the starter moving forward. That is an abbreviated version of the conversation, but since that discussion, that coworker has not brought up football to me again because I shot down every point that he made, and he knew I was right.
As for the last second TD, and perception, there's this wonderful thing called the Internet, where committee members can, with a click of the mouse, view a game scoring summary where they can quickly see that the Chicken's last TD was garbage time.
