Steve Spurrier on his call-in show last night....
Nov 27, 2013, 8:39 AM
|
|
Listened for no more than 5 minutes and he's already calling out Dabo.
He said he doesn't understand why coaches, and one in particular, would leave their QB in until close to the 4th quarter against small teams.
He said, "it's just stupid in my opinion." "We took Connor Shaw out after 3 series. Didn't even make the end of the 1st quarter."
Just because some coaches have different philosophies doesn't mean it's necessarily wrong. Dabo wanted to give Tajh and the starters a chance to get some practice in. And it's also important that our wins are blowout wins to help us in the polls with only 1 loss. Spurrier doesn't have to worry about that.

because of a couple of bad plays. I've seen him lose games he should have won because he put the second stringer in (i.e. Garcia against Auburn 3 or 4 years ago). I would rather play them a little longer than pull them too soon because I get mad.

but I don't think he was taking a shot directly at Dabo, probably was more directed towards the Murray/UGA situation.

I believe he was referring to Aaron Murray. Here's what he said a few days ago.
"I don’t know what time of the game he got hurt, but it always doesn't make sense if you get one of your best players hurt when you've got a comfortable lead."

This is pure theatrics to 1) dig at his opponents and 2) try to send a message to recruits about how the OBC really cares about their safety. Both are absurd. I could list a couple dozen games where the Gamecocks had 20+ leads in the fourth and the starting QB is still in the game. Connor Shaw played the entire game against the Citadel in 2011. He was still in in the 4th in 2011 against Kentucky, up 40 to 3.
Spurrier is pathetic.

he must have been drunk. had to be cause I tuned in to listen to a few minutes and now feel very stupid. especially after I heard this comment come from the old ball sack's mouth "the team with the most points don't always win" and then he tried to catch himself.

Shaw played most of the game in 2011 against the Citadel.

So if Slurrier actually said that, then by the transitive property he was actually saying, "I'm stupid."
Shaw also played most of the game in 2012 against Wofford. But in The Sack's defense, the game was tied after the 3rd quarter, so he had to leave his starters in...

He should have pull him pout before halftime anyway. 2 major injuries have occured becasue of this. As far as running up the score, well they won 70-10 anyway. Yes let the seniors have fun, but the real fun would be beating South Carolina. Not without Blanks or Brookes, thats going to be much harder to do.

I do agree with him. I know it was boyd's last game but he should of been taking out alot sooner. Remember the run he made in the 3rd quarter and got popped by the 2 citadel defenders? If he would of got injured we would be calling for dabo's head for keeping him in that long
