Stellato leaving was not a surprise to the coaches.

Dabo didn't mention any specific names, but when asked about the portal in his pressser earlier this week he included in his answer (paraphrased): We don't know how many kids will be leaving. We don't expect any starters to leave but there may be some guys who want more playing time deciding to go elsewhere.
Stellato certainly fits that criteria.

Stellato made a comment that he "wasn't reaching his potential" at Clemson.....which is a veiled shot at Grisham.
Considering how we went over and above for an injury-prone player, he should have kept his mouth shut, kept it classy, and just moved on. But no.
Good riddance, IMO.

His actual quote was “Didn’t envision myself growing as a player here”. Which means he got beat out and wouldn’t see enough playing time.
I think by him running his mouth to TCI it shows one of the reasons he probably lost his starting spot. He sounds like an entitled spoiled brat who couldn’t handle getting beat on the depth chart. Good luck wherever he goes, but I don’t think he will be a big name anywhere and will probably be a backup unless he goes to lower competition.

Getting beat out for PT is the reason 90% of players transfer.

That doesn't mean they are spoiled brats; it's probably because they want to go somewhere they can get more PT, and play a bigger role. Nothing wrong with that.

He could have just as easily said to TCI: "We're just stacked at WR and I don't see myself getting as much playing time as I would have hoped at this point in my career".....
But no. Instead he took a shot at Grisham. While I'm no fan of Grisham, that's just dumb.
Good riddance.

I get it. He could have worded it better.

I'm just not making a decisive judgement of his character based on that. I liked him at Clemson, and I wish him well going forward.

He says that ans hurts his portal and NIL stock. Nothing against him but seemed hurt more than healthy which has to be a concern. Good luck to him wherever he ends up.

I'm sure we won't pay him much to sit on the bench either. Somebody out there may be willing to take a gamble on him though. Won't hurt to put his name in the hat.

We've never been a team focused on just 1 primary WR....we have some dominant duos in the past. But we've always been a team to spread the ball around to 4 or 5 WRs throughout. A lot of guys want that 6 Rec for 100 yards every game. He has the right to feel however he wants, but there's no questions the injuries played a key part in his growing as a WR here.

Stellato was too injury-prone and didn't have good hands. Dropped more passes than he caught. He won't be missed. Hopefully Clemson won't lose Wesco, Williams and Moore. Those are the the playmakers at WR.

Most kids at that age say similar things on their way out

A bruised ego feels better to put it on someone else when you don’t reach your expected potential. If you remember DJ did something very similar, he even went on to say that our offense was too basic for him to thrive. Mukuba also did this. I’m willing to bet they will wish they phrased things differently when they get older. Wish all of them the best in the meantime.

If the $$$ is there and a bigger role somewhere else, good for him. He's a talented receiver who has battled and worked for his chance, and is suddenly losing PT to the best crop of WRs we've had in years.

Even before the portal and back when kids had to sit out a year, players left schools every year because they saw they weren't going to get significant PT at the school where they were.

To be honest, he should have transferred 2 years ago. It is hard to improve as a player from the medical tent.

I think his point is, that he persevered through a ton of injuries, and when

he was finally healthy, he started to shine, and became a very productive player. Then, boom, his PT was reduced after a big game. I think the reason for that was the emergence of a young, extremely talented, and deep WR room. IT looks like his reduced PT had zero to do with injury this season, but rather a sudden emergence of talent at his position. I understand his frustration and disappointment. As I said above, he could have worded things a little better, but if we are going to dog the #### out of every player who leaves in hopes of getting more PT, then what are we doing? I mean, he honestly stands a better chance of reaching his potential with a program where he will get more PT and play a bigger role.

He has been injured most of his career. He is a good receiver if he can stay healthy. Only has one more year and playing time at Clemson does not look great. Maybe Dorean could use him since losing Conception.
