State recruiting

25

Feb 2, 2023, 11:14 AM

I am seeing a lot of talk here about us losing in the state battle with the coots in recruiting...It simply is not true! Do the coots get more state recruits than us? Usually, but that is because we do not offer many of them.

In 2022, Clemson put out a total of 89 offers, 7 of which were to state recruits...we got all of the state recrutis we offered!!
Of those 7 recruits, 5 of them also had coot offers. Of those 5, we won the battle and got the #1, #3, #4 and #5 state ranked players, all 4 star players (#2 went to ND). They only got 5 players from the state to commit, and all of those were 3 stars or less (13 offers). Absolutely no contest!!

In 2023, we have put out only 5 offers (247 says 6, but Tyler Brown is listed twice) to state recruits, and already have 3 of those. The coots put out 9 offers, but of those offers, the only ones offered by both schools that we have lost are Freeling to GA, and Anderson to the coots. So, as to in state recruiting, head to head, we only lost one recruit that we offered to the coots. In 2023, Clemson offered a total of 104 players, while the coots offered 263 total!

In 2024, we have put out 44 offers, 4 in the state. The coots have offered 168 players, 5 state players. The three highest OTs in the class were offered by both schools, with the coots already getting #1 player (46 national) Pringle. #2 player Thompson (#58 national) is still up for grabs, as is the #7 player (#421 national) Franks. This is still a long way off, and especially for the coots, recruits can change their mind!

Still an uphill climb in state, USuCk has dwarfed...

Clemson enrollment for decades.

This means the state & its recruits is populated, coached, taught by more dirtpecks from hatchling to hen, and lifetimes of misplaced loyalties have to be usurped.

The point is, if we offer them, then we have a good chance of getting them. And if both schools offer them, we get more than not. Maybe Dabo knows which ones are born coots, will not change, and does not offer them!

Totally agree.

And we tend to do ok elsewhere. I don’t care from...

whence they came as long as they can play.

Agree and understood, was in no way questioning it...

Clemson turned the tide as rumors of Spurrier getting tired & old, then him finally walking away went into effect, and Dabo started stacking wins.

The Dirtpeckers have been in turmoil since and CU has taken full advantage, going National. Even then, that Midlands HS has pulled some of the top talent, 4 of the top 10 in Dirty Scheamer's first full-year.

It has always been difficult in SC, because blood runs deep, and will only get more so, hats off to Dabo & staff for planting the flag to-date, if the Head Hen continues to get comfortable.

It was a big feather in Dabo's cap to list number of states represented by recruitment, but always need to watch the home fires, stoke them when possible, that and the 6Hr recruitment rule. It might be more important now that it's easier to phone home and go?

OL is always a need, would like to see things turn Tiger Orange in state.

Sorry if it came off as saying you were contradicting me, not meant that way, I had already thumbed up your post, showing that I agreed with you. As to the in state OL, look at my post on this farther down...We OK there too!

Not at all, and thanks. Can we get Muschamp back?

3

Feb 2, 2023, 12:36 PM

Haha, USuCk turned the page on that debacle and as much as I dislike Frankie Beamer and his little boy, Jr. is creating some positive energy.

Hopefully those recruiting wins versus Muschamp's program continue to hold serve now and going forward.

Thanks for the posts.

Really like the research you put in this. I would be curious to see what it looks like for in-state O-Line recruits. Seems like we do great with skill position and defensive players when we go against SC, but for some reason we lose out on the Oline.

We have not had any problems with the coots as far as OL goes...

in 2022, we offered only one in state OL, Sadler, and got him.
In 2021, we offered no state OL
In 2020, we offered no state OL
In 2019, We offered 3 OT, 1 went to Syracuse, 1 went to Nebraska, and we got the other one. We offered 1 OG (Trotter) and got him.

In 2018, we offered 2 OT, we got one, the other went to Colorado St.

In 2017, We offered no state OL.

Thanks for doing the leg work on this. It’s looking like this year might be more of a lucky break for the gamecoots instead of a cause for alarm. Maybe a bit early but does anyone know if there are any big time instate 2025 recruits?

That’s good data. SC has traditionally recruited the state well due to logistics and demographics. Wonder what last 15 years look like if you look just at the top 10 as ranked by 247 or Rivals? Would look myself but got to work at some point. ?

Kids grow up either Clemson or Scar fans. Just a fact.

8

Feb 2, 2023, 12:00 PM

When these kids haven’t seen Scar beat Clemson since they were in the 5th grade and still commit to the gamecocks, there is no other logical explanation.

A one-point gamecock win after eight years didn’t make the difference. Their parents, aunts, uncles, cousins and buddies made the difference during their formative years.

They grew up being indoctrinated in all things Scar and they were not going to be swayed as seniors in high school.

And make no mistake, the same thing works in Clemson’s favor quite often.

Just not that many top quality players in the entire state SC. It is all a numbers game. When I lived in Houston, I had a former Clemson coach who took a job at Baylor tell me once that he could drive down to Harris County (Houston) , TX and see more 4 and 5 star players in one day than he ever saw in all his years when recruiting SC for Clemson. Don't let Beamer's little blip on the screen of time upset you because those players who go to USCjr quickly realize what they have done was a terrible mistake and that they were lied to by the coaches about this "Family Atmosphere" at games. Yeah, right, the Family Oriented fans with their middle fingers up, who throw batteries and liquor bottles and pork their gal friends against a fence in the parking lot after the Frat Fights. Gimme a break. This is a small, normal cycle in the series that always happens every few years and things soon go back to normal when the Coot Coach gets sick of the media, the administration, the politics involved and those gosh awful fans who should be taking the lithium instead of throwing it. It will either blow up or blow over. It always does.

"pork their gal friends against a fence"

I thought they did that by the dumpsters outside the stadium?
