.... stage of our lives.
We are both mid 70s (73 and 75). Both in very good health for our age. Next month we will be moving to a "Continuing Care Retirement Community." We will be among the youngest people there. (I attend a Bible Study there every week and they call me "the youngster.")
I won't go into great detail about why this is the best decision for us at this time.
But, I will tell you this is how my wife describes it:
"I'm going back to college. Got a great apartment close to everything, including the gym and the cafeteria. Got a great roommate. I've know him for over 50 years. We get along great. And, we have the same major. We're majoring in applied geriatrics."

when I was in college you could always get a soft serve ice cream cone at the dining hall. Can you do that there?

Pecan pie, banana pudding, chocolate cake are among the regulars. Ice Cream ia always available.
We have been warned that when we move in we will aquire "The Lakeview Fifteen." (As in 15 lbs gained.)

I truly hope this works out really well for you and your bride. I don't think that would be something for me or my wife at our age bc we wouldn't do well with following the rules where someone other than us owning our home. We've gotten really use to not having any rules that apply us at our own home!!!

I have replaced a roof this year and am replacing a water main this week, and I am envious.
I look forward to assisted living and sponge baths. I jest, but I am sure you are making a wise decision for you both. The important question for me is “how is the bartender?”

.... for those who aren't familiar with CCRC's.
For us now, it is like moving to a gated community. We live in a 2 bedroom unit similar to a condo. As our health fails, we will have whatever extra help we need. Short term physical therapy (in case of something like a broken ankle or knee). If we need more help they have things like independent living, assissted living and long term (what used to be called "nursing home") facilities.
I'm amazed how many of my friends have no idea of how these communities work. They consider them a "glorified nursing home" as one person told me.
Anyway, the only reason I posted this was because there was another thread on te board about old age and I just want to share my wife's comment about "majoring in applied geriatrics." I think that's hilarious.

My wife and I just put down a deposit on a soup to nuts home. Ie independent living to nursing care. We do not need it yet as we are 68 and 69 but the wait list is 5 years out. It is amazing the demand for this product. Best of luck in your new surroundings
