No stories about Daddy giving you a tiny sip of his beer when you were 7 years old. My first beer was a Pearl that I snuck from the fridge when I was 13. Parents were entertaining and I grabbed one, ran back to my room, and slammed it while I had Kiss Destroyer cranked up on my stereo. Onkyo receiver, Technics turntable, Harman Kardon HK-40 speakers. Beer tasted god-awful but i drank it all. Thought i was busted by one of Dad'sfriends when i went to put the empty in the trash. I haven't had a Pearl since, but I type this as I am brewing 10 gallons of a dry irish stout that should be ready for St Paddy's day.

A buddy of mine had the hookup and that's what he chose. We were 16ish and it took about 2.5 before we were both seeing donkey's.

Spent the night at a friends house when I was 15 years old. We knew of a popular place that sold to underage drinkers. Choices were limted, and we took the Miller (we didn't give a ####). Two beers in and I felt that feeling that kept me coming back for more for years to come.

Couldn't stand the smell of beer so I avoided it - gave mine away in Nam when they brought freebies out to us.. When in Walter Reed a group headed by a VA admin guy brought in pizza and beer for the guys on my ward. His 17 year old daughter asked him if she could drink a beer with me. Would have been embarrassed if I turned her down after he reluctantly said she could.

When I was a kid...
Jan 29, 2023, 5:56 PM
|
|
my father and older brother would have me run to the kitchen to get them another beer. I probably wasn't much more than 8 or 10 at the time. In exchange, I always got a sip. They thought it was funny because it made my eyes water. It was really fun when several their buddies were visiting, and I got to make numerous trips to the refrigerator for them.
As for the the first full ones of my own, I was 15 or 16 (circa 1978/79) and headed to a KISS concert in Columbia with a group of friends. My best friend had a brother who was a couple of years older than us and he would buy us all the beer we wanted.
Ahhh the memories !!!!

Lol. Cant believe I have something in common. My first drunk was at the beach with Busch. Friend bought a case for me and a buddy. By the 5th, I was dancing through the fire. We didnt finished, so we buried the remainder. Dug it up the next day at about 10. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, is a funky as a warm Busch......... ( one is funky, the other one isn't)
First full beer was a Hamm's. Dad drinking on the front stoop. He let me try. I slugged it down.

with some older dudes. Parked at Burrell's Ford, hiked in and set up camp along the Chattooga river. At this point in our lives we all just poked smot, no alcohol except for a couple of Boone's Farm episodes that didn't end well. But they brought a ton of Old Milwaukees and Schlitz. And the first time I tried to drink one I spit it out. It was nasty. But a funny thing happened... as the week went on, they got better and better. And the rest is history.

Turned 21 and drove down to Fast Fare after dropping off my future wife at Lightsy Bridge. Bought 2 Budweiser in tall can. Drove back to my apartment at Calhoun Courts and drank both beers in my Cutlas Supreme parked outside of Thornhill. Slept like a baby. Got up next morning for 8 o'clock class.

when I was spending a week with my cousins when I was 13. Neither of my parents were drinkers, so there was no alkyhol in our house. Seeing a whole fridge full of beer was a revelation. I guess he figured better for me to have my first drink under supervision, than otherwise.

Quart of Budweiser. Back then you could legally buy beer at 18 but there were a couple of small local stores on Johns Island where you could get beer if you looked 15. My brother is 3 years older than me and he was old enough to drive so I was probably 13 or 14. We would drive around the back roads of Johns Island and drink quarts of beer. Another example of why it’s a wonder we survived all the stupid sheet we did as kids.

Fall of 1974 at a beer bash at the old YMCA gym off of 93. Brother was a freshman and I was a 16 year old junior in high school. Think it was $3 admission which included a band and all the Budweiser draft you could drink!!
Actually visited the Red Carpet the next night and had no problem getting in.
After that weekend, I couldn’t wait until I could attend!!
Favorite beers now are most lagers but really like Pacifico and Narragansett!!

Didn’t drink alcoholic beverages until I was in Korea. I guess War will do that to you, Drank gin and tonics and bourbon and water before trying beer. Don’t remember the brand but broke open a can of warm beverages on a hot steamy day. Still not a fan. Stopped the hard stuff ten years ago at age 83. Never missed it after making the decision.

Took one of my Dad’s Sam Adams Boston Lagers out of the basement fridge. He knew but never told me until much later.

Falstaff. The “Tall Boys”. The last 6oz was pure foam. We bought it from an old (woman) bootlegger in the swamps of NC. We called her “Blackwater Hattie”.

Snuck about five or six in our pockets out the back door of the golf course across the street from my house when me and my buddy were about 15. I think after two each we were falling down drunk.

I tasted a few times at a very early age but that doesn’t count…got drunk the first time at about 13 on Old Milwaukee and had a prank pulled on me by the older kids! Has anyone heard of the magic wash rag prank? You were drunk or young and gullible…they would tell you to wipe your face with this Magical wash rag and lay a pair of scissors on the coffee table and the scissors would dance…, after you didn’t see them move ….”hey go look in the mirror “ you knew then you had rubbed your face with a soot filled wash cloth and your face was all black…

Hudepohl! Just kidding - didn’t drink that til 1969 visiting relatives in Cincinnati.
First beers were a case of PBRs bought in ‘66 from Terry’s Marina on Lake Wylie. Was underage but worked there and paid for the case as I closed up one summer night. You could see the trail of PBR cans leading under the Buster Boyd Bridge in the wake of our 14’ plywood Renken with a 25hp Gale. Good times!
Go Tigers!

I sneaked to the fridge and back to my room. Daddy ran out of vodka, IDK how that happened.

About14-15. My best friend's Dad was a house painter and drank beer while he painted. His Dad left the house he was painting to run an errand and we stole one out of his cooler. Can't remember the brand. Worse thing I have ever tried to drink. We didn't have more than a couple of sips and threw the can away.

PBR, 1970. Then progressed to Pony Miller's, then Budweiser and so on and so forth. The absolute worst was Falstaff's Black Label!

Speaking of PBR. The mom always had the short brown pop bottles in the fridge back in the 70’s. For some reason she switched to Carling’s Black Label back when it was in a white can.

down at the beginning of that summer, then by the end of the summer we were literally putting an entire 6-pack in a beer bong as a challenge. I won the challenge, since puking it back up didn't count against us.
Good times.
