Dabo doesn’t exude confidence at all in Cade. Seeing them sitting beside each other on the platform taking questions, you can tell there is a distance between them that Dabo doesn’t have with DJ.
Dabo seems down, sad, disappointed. Something is off. I’m sure he knows DJ will likely transfer.
Makes me wonder if it is something off the field, leadership, etc. Cade is clearly the better QB, but Dabo doesn’t seem thrilled.

When DJ was melting down last year with this family situation, I suspect Dabo promised DJ's Mom that he would make sure that he would be a big success. And here we are.

If he promised that then he is certainly at fault. He has handled this situation badly, pouted like a child every time a question was asked and praised DJ for mediocre play that has hurt our team. I don't believe Cade was scheduled for the 3rd possession tonight, in fact he said it would be the 3rd or 4th or maybe later. Dabo is quick to criticize our defense, receiver drops, really everything other than DJs play. Not that it matters to anyone but his overall arrogance has caused problems this year and last. Thank God for Cade's performance.

because Dabo left DJ in because he knew he was hurting? You've offered both in this thread. Either way, you're excusing your way around the fact that a singular player substitution would have almost certainly have won that game for us, and that as far as we can tell, there was no real logical reason for not even attempting that substitution.

Correct. Apparently by your logic I should also stop questioning the president, the guy who claims he “is the science”, celebrities trying to sell me FTX crypto, and everyone else that makes a bunch of money. Of course they are never wrong, right??
Or maybe Dabo can be a great coach and person but have completely botched this QB situation. Maybe people who get paid millions and/or are in very powerful positions should be scrutinized that much more. And maybe, just maybe, those people know, or should know, they signed up for it. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.
But for you, by all means, continue to bow down to those who make more than you because for certain, they must be right.

except "those who refuse to study history are doomed to repeat it" 2 YEARS of Dabo treating DJ like he was a scared 6 year old girl have cost the team, the players (all of which other than DJ Dabo has no problem throwing under the bus) and the trust and respect of the fan base (you know the ones who PAY Dabos multi million dollar salary)

You don't have a clue where he is in life. And I find it ironic that the people to take personal attacks on fellow posters always hide behind anonymity. If you were such a big success, why don't you tell us all about yourself so we can see where you are in life.
Also, it's foolish to claim hindsight is 20/20 when people were saying DJ would cost Clemson games and Cade could start since the off-season. That's foresight, not hindsight.

It seems as though DJU embodies everything Dabo is trying to continue establishing (Team first, great young men, hard working, great in the community, graduating, teaching life lessons through the game of football, etc.)
I agree 1000% it was more than warranted to make the change and without it I think we lose by 21+ points. That being said I also believe that for the first time in a long time, it didn't seem like DJ had the weight of the world on his shoulders. If he was attracted to Clemson and the elements of the culture, specifically family, it probably would be great for him to be able to relocate and play with his brother at like a UCLA or something like that.

This didn't age well. I wanted Cade since the off-season because I believe all your decisions have to be geared for the post-season. DJ, even at his best, couldn't beat a top 10 team. His ceiling just wasn't that high (whether that's because of him or because of Streeter, idk).
I don't know DJ. He might well be a great young man. I don't know and neither do you. He did graduate. I am rather close to the Clemson community and know he doesn't do anything to warrant that praise. He's definitely not team-first, as the second he was no longer the starter, he's leaving (not that I blame him for that, but that's not putting the team first). And what life lessons have you learned from him through the game of football?

But are you really describing a good quality? Sounds like straight up favoritism. It may be heartwarming to see the closeness to DJ,but what about all those other guys? A QB who was overlooked. Receivers who weren’t given the opportunity to show what they could do. Players who were called out as the “real reason” for losses. And the whole team misses the playoffs. Do you think they didn’t really care about that so it was OK to put favoritism ahead of their interests?

Although Klubnik was highly recruited, is a good christain and highly talented young man, IMO, Klubnik did not fit the mold of DW4 and TL16 and it cost him. He's more of running gun slinger than a drop back pass and run when you have to QB. Dabo and Streeter can't change his style, it's all he's known, and it affected his play time. The Clemson offense is not built as a plug and play for Cade. Maybe this was a wake up call for everyone.

Are you implying that DJU DOES fit the DW4 and TL16 mold, and deserves to play for that reason? In my opinion DJU had great practices but didn't transfer that play to real games. CK2 didn't practice as well so wasn't given many chances to play in the first half of games. So much of how a QB plays the position depends on what's going on in his head. DJU played like he wasn't always thinking clearly.

I was all in for DJ when he was recruited but now I don't care if he ever steps on the field for Clemson again. Just saying there are a lot of old Chad Morris playbook pages that need to be dusted off. CK2 is a run and gun QB with accuracy and arm strength. That's the way he's always played with just enough drop back, pocket passing to make it interesting.

I don't think there are any problems between Dabo and Cade. I think Dabo has been doing everything possible to give DJ a chance to have success, even though it cost the SC game. Why is the big question. Did he promise to let him start every game if he'd keep playing football? The rumor is DJ wanted to quit the sport.

Dabo said it last night on ACCN after the game, they had no one to go to last year. That was different story this year but it took too long to make the move depending on which side of the fence you're watching from.

Perhaps Dabo feels as if he failed DJ.
Dec 4, 2022, 2:28 PM
|

Dabo said he relates to our players like he relates to his sons. Sometimes a man does what's right and it doesn't turn out to suit him. That's life. You do your best and fail. Sometimes it's your fault for your management of the situation and sometimes, like with DJ, there's no way to force the outcome you want.
Prayer just changes you so that you accept life as it comes. It only changes your attitude sometimes.

DJ has the ability to be the QB that Dabo wants him to be. He simply is too inconsistent. I tend to think it is between the ears, but there are some things with his mechanics that could lead to inconsistency as well. Dabo just refused to give up on DJ not being what he wanted him to be.
It isn't anything against Cade, but DJ is the coach's pet. DJ is easy to root for when you look off the field even if it is just on the sidelines. He does all of the things outside of playing that you want a young man to do. I am not saying that Dabo's bias is intentional, and I don't think that he recognizes it. I just wonder a little about why the rest of the coaching staff was not telling him to think with his head and not with his heart.

Creepy Dabo forced to eat crow

And then in 1st post game interview Dabo continued to pump DJ sunshine which disrespected Cade standing right beside him. The obvious disconnect everyone notices is Dabo doesn't even know Cade and Cade most likely will never have much trust in Dabo now. Dabo has become as creepy as his criminal brother.
