Someone please explain for me

Why did we choose to receive after winning the toss?
Was that addressed during any news conference or call in (text in) show?

If that was the reason, and I know you are probably speculating (that’s what we do on fan sites), that is delusional!

Dabo answered this in the post game.
He said Georgia lead the league in TOP last year and you don’t get many drives against them so he wanted to get the first drive to counter it. Didn’t work out due to self inflicted stops.

Thanks for the explanation. Dumb decision anyway you slice it.

Yep. Dabo's reasoning doesn't hold up anyway . . .

the only question is whether you take it first or third quarter, but you're going to get that drive either way, so taking it first doesn't guarantee or even make it more likely that you'll eat into their TOP any more than you would if you got the ball to start the 2nd half. In fact, under the assumption that an offense will have settled in after two quarters, you're more likely to cut into their TOP if you defer.

Because Dabo was really excited for our first play from scrimmage.

In his postgame press conference, he said it would have gone for 20 yards.
During his media availability today, he said it would’ve gone for 30 yards.
By later this week, I suspect that he will say it would’ve been a touchdown.

Watching that play, even if Mafah caught it in stride, there was a LB (#2) closing fast and the CB to the wide side would have closed. It might have gotten 10 yards. Would have been a great play, but I don't think 20 yards is realistic unless Mafah bulldozed two UGA players. 32 seconds into the video.

Easily a first down, but probably not much more...It certainly wasn't a 28 point

Perhaps if we're down 6-0 at halftime, we come out with the ball, show them some new things, and sneak in a touchdown. Going up 7-6 over the #1 team in the nation would have given us a shot in the arm. Even if we just get the field goal to make it 6-3, we still feel like we're in it.
As it was, we watched: 6-0 become 13-0 become 13-3 (ok a little hope but we're still down two scores) 20-3 27-3 34-3
If we give our defense the long rest of halftime + a sustained drive, that would have been huge.

It was a hideously stupid idea and it's just the way Dabo thinks . . .

sometimes his optimism blinds his ability to think strategically. There was objectively, categorically, zero reason not to defer, and every reason not to. But Dabo was feeling in the groove so we did. That's about it.

One reason expressed by Dabo: he wanted to limit UGA's offensive possessions. He also had confidence that we would either score or pin UGA back after a long drive. That's what Dabo said.
