Palmetto State Teams 2015 Successful Recruiting(SUPER LONG)
Aug 11, 2014, 6:35 PM
|
|
I love recruiting. It is what keep me busy in offseason. It is fun to watch and read about all of these prospects committing and who there favorites are. My favorite recruiting site is 24/7 sports. Reason why is because its the best of the best and if you won't accuracy there the place to go. No one covers like them(Shot at ESPN). Im happy with how the Tigers have recruited since Dabo has been HC. But I believe this is his best class yet. And down south a little ways the Old Ball Coach is having his best recruiting year at SCAR.(Kudos to them) I was going to do some comparing of past class and comparing positions of both team. I don't mind comments of any sort. But its something interesting and hope you like what you read. Everything will be by 247 composite ranks. Clemson Past Classes 2011:#10 2012:#15 2013:#15 2014:#18 South Carolina Past Classes 2011:#17 2012:#17 2013:#20 2014:#16 Now Im going to compare this year class by position. (Coot readers Im not bias) (Quarterbacks) CLEMSON: Kelly Bryant #14 DUAL 3* Tucker Israel #23 DUAL 3* SOUTH CAROLINA: Lorenzo Nunez #7 DUAL 4* Break Down: Clemson has 2 good DT QB in this class one of which may play a different position. It wasn't really a need in the class. SCAR got a talented QB from GA who could push for playing time once he gets there. (Running Back) CLEMSON: Ray Ray McCloud #6 ATH 4* SOUTH CAROLINA: A.J Turner #27 RB 3* Mon Denson #39 RB 3* Breakdown: McCloud will be a big time paler for Clemson. He has superstar potential writing all over him. Running back was a need for SCAR. They got two decent backs that won't be able to help immediately but could help in future. Wide Receivers/Tight Ends: CLEMSON: Deon Cain #7 WR 4* Garrett Williams #9 TE 4* Shadell Bell #42 WR 3* SOUTH CAROLINA: Jalen Christian #13 ATH 4* Dexter Neal #49 WR 3* Michael Bowman #72 WR 3* Connor Redmond #32 TE 3* Kyle Markway #36 TE 3* Jared Washington #157 WR 3* Breakdown: Clemson has one of the Nation best WR in Deon Cain who will contribute early in his career at Clemson. But other than him. WR hasn't been top priority. SCAR went heavy on this end. Christian has drawn comparison to Ace Sanders from SCAR coaches. (Offensive Line) CLEMSON: Mitch Hyatt #2 OT 5* Jake Fruhmorgan #6 OT 4* Noah Green #40 OT 3* Zach Giella #64 3* SOUTH CAROLINA: Austin Clark #20 OT 4* Christian Pellage #27 OT 4* Zack Bailey #17 OG 4* Paris Palmer #1 JUCO OT 3* Breakdown: Both of the Offensive line classes are great. Clemson has Mitch Hyatt who I believe is best OT in nation. While SCAR has a JUCO OT who will most likely come into a Starting spot in year 1. (Defensive Line) CLEMSON: Clelin Ferrell #8 WDE 4* Austin Bryant #11 WDE 4* Sterling Johnson #10 SDE 4* Gage Cervanka #33 DT 3* LaSamuel Davis #41 DE 3* SOUTH CAROLINA: Marquavius Lewis #1 JUCO SDE 4* Shamiek Blackshear #5 WDE 4* Arden Key #8 WDE 4* Dante Sawyer #1 JUCO WDE 3* Quandeski Whitlow #31 WDE 3* Jozie Milton # 39 DT 3* Breakdown: Huge Priority by both SCAR and Clemson. Both teams needed a good Defensive line Class. Both still will look to add 1 or 2 more lineman to this class. But as it stands both are very good. SCAR will have 2 guys come in a probably compete for starting spot next season. (Linebackers) CLEMSON: Chad Smith #26 OLB 3* Judah Davis #89 2* J.D. Davis #90 2* South Carolina: Sherrod Pittman #17 OLB 4* Da'von Durant #1 JUCO ILB 4* Jalen Henry #41 ILB Breakdown: Im a huge fan of Chad Smith and think he will have a bright future at Clemson. SCAR has two good LB with Durant and Pittman to help at position in future. (Secondary) Clemson: Van Smith #27 ATH 4* Kaleb Chalmers #40 DB 3* Tanner Muse #35 S 3* Juwuan Briscoe #44 3* SOUTH CAROLINA: Mark FIelds #9 DB 4* Octavius Johnson #23 ATH 4* Antonie Wilders #29 S 3* Damon Arnette #57 DB 3* Jaire Alexander #116 DB 2* Breakdown: Clemson doesn't have a major need at this position at the moment but got some good prospects in this cycle. SCAR still has the Secondary as a huge Priority and needed a good cycle here.
Even though the classes are not complete I believe SCAR and Clem end up with top 10 classes. South Carolina currently has 27 Commits while Clemson has 22. Clemson ranks 3rd in 247 Sports Team Rankings SCAR ranks 4th in 247 Sports Team Rankings Quarterback: South Carolina Running Back:Clemson Wide Receiver/Tight Ends: Clemson Offensive Line: Clemson Defensive Line: South Carolina Linebacker: South Carolina Secondary: South Carolina

I'll have to disagree about the QB class. And if we get settle/Huggins like we expect that pushes us past them on the DL. Where would they be without those JUCOs.

Right I done them based off right now. And Like you said where would they be based of if they didn't have JUCOS… Just like where would we be if we didn't have Bryant and Ferrell

The difference is SCAR could lose them after only one year of installment. Clemson has Bryant and Ferrell for at least 3. That has to factor into their value as a recruit somewhat.

Yes it does. But they will get a immediately impact from them two. Lewis has 2 to play 2. And Durant has 3 to play 2. Sawyer will have 4 to play 4. This will be consider like a redshirt year.

Yes just 24/7. I only look at them. Sometime rivals. I advise u all not to look into ESPN to hard. Even though thy have us looking really good. There not reliable and still haven't ranked most of the prospects yet. 24/7 and Rivals have a lot of scouts that go to every camp not just ESPN based camps.

Maybe so but Luginbill saw many of our prospects in person during our camps. Apparently he saw something in guys like Cervenka and Davis (who probably aren't doing the football camp rounds) that warranted a 4th star.

Yeah. I read that ESPN has some where around 40 Scouters/Experts. While Rivals has 145 Scouters/Experts and 24/7 has 200 plus. ESPN should put more into it is all I'm saying.

Just like everything else the only opinion that matters is the one that shouts the loudest. ESPN is all over the air waves. They may not be the best rankings available but they are the ones you want to do well in.

Both teams had different needs. But I'll concede that both teams had great recruiting classes and are, for the first time ever, both consistently relevant programs at a national level.

Nice write up. Both schools are absolutely killing it in recruiting. With the way we are both recruiting the trenches it should set up for some very physical and exciting games in the next few years.
Also, I really hope Wideman gets to do prep and come to us next year. Would be huge for us.

Why do you give more edges to SC than Clemson? Mostly due to numbers? Are non-qualifiers and grey-shirts also added in?

I gave more edges to SCAR do to Poistion. Clemson has wide advantage a OL and RB and WR. SCAR has better recruits at the positions i posted. And SCAR is currently ahead of us with Rivals after Baileys commitment.#2

Having said all that, most experts in the field do not rate 24/7 rankings to be more accurate than Rivals or ESPN. For my own take, I say you have to take ANY of these rankings with a large grain of salt. As Consumer Reports often says: A difference of ten places is insignificant. Clemson is recruiting very well. And, unfortunately, the Gamecocks are recruiting very well also. I would prefer they were ranked around fifty or so....

Why was it miraculous? They made the test score they needed. Both were flagged for imposing so much. So they took it again and, once again made an acceptable score. Doubt there was anything miraculous. Looks more like two guys realized they were about to blow an amazing opportunity so they got serious about doing what they needed to. If it was miraculous we would have Blue, Sawyer, and Wideman in camp.

I would be surprised if they start. Al Harris Jr. will start over both of them and Bison Williams will start on the other side. One of them may play nickel. We did need them for depth but that's true of the defensive ends too.

And Nunez would have picked Clemson if we did not get a commitment from Bryant. We took Bryant over Nunez and I trust our coaches more than 247.

isn't this only Bryant's 3rd year of being a QB or something like that and didn't Tucker Israel lead florida in some passing categories. I don't see how the OP can say that SC has the advantage at QB.

I think his junior year was his first actually passing the ball switching from triple option to a spread offense. Israel has torn up 5A Florida ball since he was a freshman. I guess in SuperCrossCU's mind that is < the guy we passed over instate.

I went solely biased off of 24/7 Ratings. Nunez was Higher. Thats all. Didn't dig around to dispute. I have heard from a family member here in Abbeville where Bryant is originally from that they don't want to use him at QB at Clemson. They got other plans. So I mainly had attention on Israel and Nunez.

If you didn't dig around then why add that we aren't using Bryant at QB. You are using whatever you can to make SC class seem better than ours. I think your history on here shows that you are a coot and for that I say goodbye.
