well that doesn't sound good for us, just hope his commitment doesn't deter another player from coming here thinking Ryan may be on the roster. Though I am sure EB knows and is upfront with other recruits. Anyway, best of luck to Ryan whichever way he goes. Sounds like a heck of a player.

I think Wideman was the one that made TP enter the portal. I think if Wideman and TP both don't make it back to Clemson, we have good options for CF in Clavon or Owen Anchors (would be a longshot but we don't have the most athletic outfielders outside of Clavon). I'm hoping TP entered and is waiting for Wideman's decision whether or not to rescind his name and come back, but I'm not holding my breath.

Right, I don't know what either one of them are or were thinking/planning. That's why I said "I think..." and "I hope..."

I thought the July 2nd deadline was just to enter the portal, not necessarily to find a new school; I could be wrong though.
MCBB are still committing, plus the guys who entered the portal/draft who are waiting for the draft to wrap up before deciding if they need to come back, and the last day the portal was open was April 22nd. Ven Allen Lubin committed to NC State a couple weeks back.

Somehow I think if Wideman had chosen a SEC school

instead of Clemson, the prediction of him playing another year in college would be quite different than what Baseball America is saying. It’s almost as if they are rooting for him to go pro.

Idk about that, I think it's an analyst being open and honest. We knew when he committed that he was a top 150 player and that would land him in the top 10 rounds for sure, if not top 3-5. It's hard to get those guys on campus regardless of who they're committed to.

It all depends on if he think that playing, and succeeding in the ACC will raise his stock. 1st round money is way different than 3rd/4th round money.
Its two lifelong dreams competing with each other. Hes always wanted to suit up in a Tiger uniform, and obviously he's always dreamed of playing in the pros. If Bakich can secure him a good NIL package I could see him playing for Clemson next spring.

Yeah I think the odds of him playing at Clemson are much better than if we was committed to like Kentucky or Georgia or something, solely because of the familial ties and such.

A couple questions based on comments above. Lifelong dream. to play for Clemson... then why didn't Bakich know this and go get him the first year.
But either way, as you stated, recurring theme for Clemson baseball. I like EB and think he's the best coach for Clemson. That said, I was hoping he'd reverse this theme. Quite a few other teams are able to land top 100 talent. Post MLB recruit rank is still 4th or 5th in the acc.... worse than that considering sec and b12 teams?
Sorry, TD me all you want, but the "why " questions need to be answered.

As for Wideman, I think he was already committed to juco before Bakich was hired, so the timeline might not have worked initially. When he transferred last year, I think the depth chart of the outfield was pretty set, and when you already have Cam, there was only two options for spots. Then, once Listi committed, only RF was left, which was already a 3-way battle between McCladdie, Bissetta, and Crighton. I think some apprehension too due to him being a juco transfer, which hitting-wise is hard to gauge how they will translate. I think the only juco product on the roster last year was B.J. Bailey (who also took two years before getting regular appearances), but there could be others I forgot.
The only top guy that comes to mind is Tristan Smith, who was 24th on PG, and 46th in the draft that year. It looks like he was demanding too much money for his projected spot, and a lot of teams were worried that he was going to end up a reliever, which is a huge risk when drafting in the first two rounds. Last year, Talan Bell was the only top 100 prospect (and really the only one close) to sign but probably would be in the minors had he not gotten hurt. Since 2020, only 33% (3/9) top 100 players played @ Clemson, and 54% (7/13) top 150 players have played @ Clemson. Since Bakich took over, he's got a 33% success with top 100 and a 60% chance with top 150. With Bakich really going after the transfer portal, it might be worth going after more top-end high school talent and hoping that even 2 or 3 can be convinced to come to Clemson. The development of players has lacked (outside of Cam and maybe Purify), so going after a bunch of lower end guys and hoping they figure it out might not be a good strategy.

All of what in the article may be true but I read another write up that wasn't as high on him. Saying he struggles with upper echelon fastball, has a tendency to hit too many weak grounders, has an average arm and not the best at playing the ball in the outfield. I wish I could remember where I read it but the jest of it was the the scouts would really like to see him play at Clemson against better comp to see if he is the real deal. If he came to Clemson and put those numbers up with the bat he'd be a sure fire top 10-15 pick. Can Clemson entice him to get to campus is the thing. The thing about that is do you take that chance against better comp and flop how bad did you hurt yourself. He's draft eligible so it's on him. The thing I have against the draft is them drafting high schoolers. I don't believe in drafting young kids out of high school. How many kids have ruined their careers going straight to pro ball? I know a lot of clubs put stipulations in the contract that they will pay for their schooling but let's be real it's not the same and collegiate career is over.

The MLB draft is one reason that trying to recruit top players is so tough and so different from football recruiting.
