I know Reese gets a lot of well deserved accolades, but McCubbin imo is the biggest reason for our historical season. Kudos to the coaches for the mid-season adjustment of rotating pitchers. Clearly we've out hit most of our inferior opponents... but the higher ranked opponents we've played, pitching has been dominant. Brooke has come in and shut down any momentum of the other teams.
Been saying that softball in general is wide open this year vs the last few years. Multiple teams have a chance, and no doubt one of those teams are us. I don't see Texas beating us twice. Go Tigers.

McCubbin is definitely a key to our success. She has gotten us out of multiple jams this season when it look bleak. SHe is a tough competitor.
One thing I have noticed about her is she wears her Clemson ring on her glove hand when she pitches. I love watching her pitch and emnjoy her love of our school.

Thank you 74, you got the point of my post. Obviously the whole team has had a fabulous year. But as I point out below, I have to give her props when those said teams were gaining mo.

She has been huge especially since we lost a ton of pitching off of last year's team. Basinger has been the workhorse as well, allowing Cintron to grow without being in the fire.

She leads the team in batting average, slugging percentage, on base percentage, home runs, RBIs, multi-hit games, multi-RBI games, and is second in steals. She was NFCA third team All-American in 2024 and All-ACC first team. And she is a Top 25 Finalist for the 2025 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year.

The progress she has made from year 1 to now… WOW! And she loves Clemson and the program so much. She’s my favorite on the team.
I’m totally digging the pigtails and her celebration with them after getting a big hit. She’s something else!

It’s tough for me to choose between Moore and McCubbin.

Not going to get into a discussion because Moore deserves accolades too. But the big games that defined our season, it's been McCubbin and not Moore. Not a peeing contest but without the big game wins listed below, we're in a different hosting discussion. Obviously the entire team delivered all year. But that's not really what my post was about.

This is just a question for my knowledge—not trying to start anything negative. I was just watching the post game interview and coach said “we have ridden those horses” a lot this year. He was talking about our two pitcher rotation. Other than Cintron who he said he was trying to protect, are there any other options at pitcher? How do you see our primary pitchers holding up? Thanks

There's less wear and tear on the arm. Brooke and Reese could both start tonight, and it would not be too big of a deal. The issue will be that the UT Coos will have seen them both, so there's familiarity. Besides the dynamic duo, we have Macey, who I believe would be the only other pitcher we'd see.
We also have Duncan and Melnychuk as the only others, but they've not seen much action.

No other options at pitcher. It's Basinger or McCubbin and has been all year. Cintron hasn't pitched in a month.
There are 3 pitchers coming in next year, but Rittman would do well to bring in a P5 pitcher or two from the portal. Otherwise your most experienced arm is Cintron who hasn't gotten enough work.
Basinger 173.1 innings pitched. McCubbin 132.1 innings pitched. Cintron 61.0 innings pitched.

Excellent post by mmhodge. Excellent answers. Was it Northern Illinois or Northern Idaho who had that dynamic pitcher. She threw 150+ pitches to win their first ever ncaa game. Then almost took out the cawks in relief the next day... so, the mix of Brooke and Reese throwing 75 max a game is brilliant.
Yes, if I were Kati crash, with her knowledge of the sec recruiting footprint, I'd scoop either that girl, or the young lady from se Louisiana... or there may be some options at liberty.
Reese just didn't have any defense or offense at Wofford... we're having to turn away talent at Clemson. It's really easy to recruit here.

Moore is my favorite Clemson SB player all time. It takes a team effort for sure. They are fun to watch.

Agree 100%. The whole team has the never say die attitude but McCubbin has ice water in her veins and never gets rattled. We don’t make it this far without her

We don’t get this far without the senior trio of Moore, McCubb9n and Viera.

Sorry but you just can’t leave Brown off that list. Her improvement from last last year to this year has been eye-opening. She doesn’t have the power of some of the others but if I’m looking for someone to get on base it is Alex.
That said all the seniors have been great. I would love to have any or all of them back for another year.

on Brooke in the past since she tended to miss her spots too often. BUT man, has she come around this year. Looking back over the year, a lot of the times that she threw "too pretty" of a pitch had to do with the ump pinching her. She's learned to keep hitting the spots, not get lazy, and leave one down the middle. I am so happy for her this year...she has bided her time.
Also, Reese...what a great year for that young lady. She reminds me a little of Greg Maddux. She's almost surgical in her approach.

Absolutely without a doubt! I’d also argue Rittman deserves a ton of credit after graduation 10 players last year including some generational talent. This group of freshman might be one of the best in the history of the sport. It took them a minute to gel but once they did they are almost unstoppable.
The national disrespect kills me. Clemson has won 20/21 to close the season including many top seeds. Their record is better than Texas and a lot of the top 8 seeds. We SHOULD be hosting Supers!
I don’t see any teams in the field that we can’t beat! It’s super exciting to see these women excel! Shock the world! Win it all! Go Tigers!
