I hate that she was unable to play this weekend because she is worth it to make plans to see compete whether in person at the stadium or on a live broadcast via your device of your choice.
It is also fantastic to see this softball team play the way they did and step up to their capabilities this weekend without leaning on the "crutch" as I have seen a lot of this year. This includes the coaches.
Hey Clemgalalways®, am I seeing the same thing as you are?
I pray that the injured/sick heal quickly and get back on the field.
GO TIGERS!

It was great to see them play so well this weekend without Cagle. She is obviously a huge part of the team but with this being her last year, it’s nice to see them be able to succeed without her. I’d be surprised to see her back soon so hopefully the cohesion from this weekend will continue to bond!

^^^^ That part. This is the most cryptic, non-reported all-world player illness.

It’s not my business to share, I’ll just say we should keep her in our thoughts and hope to see her back out on the diamond soon. Rittman keeps everything close to chest so it’s not surprising we’re being kept in the dark.

Appreciate that. The less said the better. But as you said, let's keep Valerie in our thoughts and prayers as we would for all our student athletes.

You are absolutely spot on. Certainly everyone wants to go watch Val just to see "what will she do next ". UNC was the perfect medicine for this team. They came in with gaudy numbers etc but a very weak schedule. Obviously we have superior talent. I think that's what we saw happen this weekend.
It was like a huge weight lifted. I also think it was player lead. When they learned Val wasn't going to be available the series, it's really like the expectations of winning every day weren't there. Almost like if they lost a game, it wasn't going to be criticized. So I saw a team that forgot the noise and just relax and let their talent take over. The team after losing games they were expected to win, the game was a chore and it was no longer fun.
I think millie and a couple others decided to go back to having fun.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Honestly, we did not look like the same team ...... particularly hitting. No player was waiting around for Valerie to do something!

It was almost like a switch flipped. Don't know if Rittman noticed how tight they were wound and just told the team to loosen up and have fun. They appeared to be trying too hard to play to their #5 ranking and high expectations...Val and seniors in particular. This tightness rubbed off on the transfers and it showed in our play.
Not having VC for this past weekend might have been a blessing, the rest of the team stepped up in a big way; they had to. Clark, Logoleo, Moore, Vieira, Oda, Garcia, Hiller, Johnson all came through in clutch situations, and Alex Brown had a tremendous weekend. Regan pitched great and Millie threw with a confidence and swagger that we hadn't seen in a while. I'd bet Valerie was beyond thrilled with how the team stepped up. If we can keep the bats rolling and get Cagle and Knowler back, this team will be a top-ten team.
Go Tigers beat the dirtpeckers! AND get well soon Valerie and Julia!

It was great to see the young freshman step up and make an impact. The whole lineup was seeing the ball well and hitting in tough situations. They also did it with a smile and a lot of laughs. That’s when things are clicking.
The biggest thing I’ve seen is the emergence of another ace in the pitching staff. Spencer has really become a day one starter and worthy of pitching against any competition. McCubbin had a chance to earn back some confidence also. She’s better than her earlier appearances. Millie Thompson seems to be healthy this year after suffering from surgery and rehab on her pitching arm due to a rare disease. She struggled last year but seems sharp this year.
If the pitching staff continues to get quality innings with this depth and a healthy Val, they can go a long way. Especially if the lineup continues to produce from top to bottom. This is a very different team than the ones that dropped those six losses.
