Instead of Clemson? I mean yeah we lost the other night. By 7. To LSU. Not TCU. Not by 30+

State of NC / TV Market or a team that is now 0 - 4 against them.

Or a team.that has won multiple ACC championships over the past 45 years vs zero.

Yeah im sure people in north Carolina will be tuning in to watch their beloved Holes get skulldragged 50-0 every week.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Are you still talking about the ACC team that is recently 0 - 4 against the SEC

Cause while past accomplishments are cute, that’s not really defending your case.

Also, they would get a Top 5 basketball powerhouse in a conference that just become ‘Top Dig’ in CBB last year.

I’m a Clemson fan like you but too many of you are fueled by your emotions and not logic / truth.

They want to be dominant in football. Clemson is objectively a better program than UNC. With B1G handing them their ### in CFP last couple years they better get the best available while they can.

TV markets are a thing of the past. Nothing is regionalized

Like it used to be. Everything is national. Networks want schools that draw eyes. Big match ups draw eyes. Battles of top 10 teams draw eyes. Clemson draws a much bigger eye for ratings across the country than UNC. Don't get sucked into lies and rumors in conference expansion. When it happens Clemson will be fine!

if media markets mattered the ACC would be running laps around the SEC. It's all about brands, UNC even when down brings the basketball brand in a massive way. Clemson brings Football in a big way. But this idea of UVA getting a seat in realignment is the only one that puzzles me. Only way they move is if the wine and cheese crowd pony up an SMU like deal because no way fox/cbs/nbc want them. I'm sure the presidents at the universities do, but TV money is what drives all this. UVA vs Michigan doesn't bring eyes. Clemson vs Ohio state / Clemson Oregon etc. brings the eyes.

Once again another misunderstanding about expansion. It’s not 2010 television markets no longer matter. We live in a streaming world so it’s about total number of views not television markets. They could care less about specific markets. It’s about the total number of viewers not where those viewers are coming from. So adding teams that increase their total number of viewers is their objective. The teams that currently would do that the most that are currently not in the SEC or Big10 are FSU, Clemson, & esports Notre Dame.

They don't care about college football in NC. Even the local sports on the news in Charlotte doesn't do nearly the college coverage SC stations do. It's all Professional.

You do know there’s other sports besides football right. The SEC wants them for baseball & basketball, same reason they want UVA

I'm not convinced they want UVA. Even the tar heel paper reported UNC and Clemson are the highest priority expansion candidates for the SEC.

You people don’t seem to understand expansion. Conference expansion is about one thing & one thing only college football. Any improvement in any sport other than college football is merely coincidental. All of the recent conference expansion has nothing to do with anything except college football. Baseball, basketball, geography, even academics has absolutely nothing to do with expansion.

SEC doesn't care if UNC even plays football. But the basketball heritage and national attention runs deep. It's all about growing the demographics in all major sports.

Wrong. The only two sports that turn a profit & generates any revenue is football & men’s basketball. All other sports mean nothing when it comes to revenue. In fact football & men’s basketball prop those other sports up. That’s just the facts. And, between the two college football far exceeds men’s basketball in revenue. If basketball really mattered as much as some of you think then Kansas, Duke, & Connecticut would be talked about as some of the hottest commodities available when expansion talks jump up, but guess what those schools are hardly mentioned except by basketball people. You may not like it but college football rules college athletics & all other sports including basketball are an afterthought.

Did you see that "Who's Who" box of UNCheat Alumni?? Maybe the greatest basketball player of all time, maybe the greatest LB of all time, one of the greatest DE's of all time, one of the greatest basketball coaches in college history, the greatest women's soccer player of all time.........all sitting together in one box. THAT is the legendary status that the SEC seeks and UNCheat has it in spades. No other ACC school can come close to a group of legendary athletes like those.

I hope you’re being sarcastic. Because distant history has zero to do with now. People do not watch UNC because LT played there. Maybe a dozen old people that became fans during his days. No one watching football cares anything about Roy Williams. Peppers was great. But not great enough to move any kind of needle for current watchers.

The soccer chick? 99% of the people watching learned her name for the first time last night.

Now, unc football team is worth 150 million ish less than Clemson’s. Their basketball team is worth a lot, half of what Clemson’s fb team is worth. I doubt our bball team has a positive worth, and if so, it’s in the tens of millions, not hundreds like unc.

The SEC cares about dollars. Period. If the numbers bear out unc will make them more overall, then it’ll be unc. But not because of Jordan or LT

Where Clemson ends up will largely be decided by Disney. They have Clemson’s TV rights now and they also have the SECs. If Disney wants Clemson in the SEC at some point that’s where they will be. Sankey is a good mouthpiece as a commissioner. At the end of the day the TV money makes all the decisions. They went to an extra conference game because no one is gonna watch Vandy, MS State, or KY play whoever they play in that extra OOC game. People will tune in to watch them get drubbed by UGA.

We take our rights now once the exit fee is paid. That was the reason and result of the lawsuit. I don't see ESPN wanting us to take those to FOX. The bail drops every season now until 2030 when it bottoms out and ESPN is Ok with it to create their super conference to compete against FOX if necessary. If ESPN wants to move Clemson or any other school to the SEC I doubt that exit fee will ever be paid in full. Some deal will be made.

I don't think the SEC prioritizes North Carolina because of the market. I think they prioritize North Carolina because they want to prevent the Big Ten from entering the Southeastern market.

The question everyone should ask is why does the Big Ten prioritize North Carolina and Virginia? The answer has nothing to do with football or basketball, but everything to do with the census projections for 2030 which show they will likely lose up to 15 House seats from Big 10 states including California, Oregon and Washington.

If this was about football the Big Ten would be all over Clemson like white on rice. But South Carolina is a state of 5 million and Virginia and North Carolina have many more house members and if those two schools were in the Big Ten those house members would line up to support the Grant recommendations coming out of the House Committee that handles Federal grants. Maybe some serve on that committee to boot. But either way they make up the seats they are losing my adding those states, or getting into Florida with Miami. And before anyone jumps the gun this isn't a red vs blue issue. This is how do we find Representatives who will back UNC and UVa grant applications while voting with a block of representatives who want the same for other Big Ten schools.

You should look at the Big Ten's stated goals. Research grants is #2. Sports achievement is #3.

The SEC will seek to block their entry into North Carolina and Virginia because that is the best way to protect its markets in the Southeast. The SEC can use up to 4 slots to get to 20 and has some pro rata additions it can make beyond that. The SEC doesn't want Clemson and FSU in Big 10 hands. If they aren't secure in the ACC and if the Big Ten is intent on a raid I look for the SEC to first take the schools that the Big Ten most wants: Duke, North Carolina and Virginia. That cuts them off from their next and more likely to join them target, Miami which doesn't really culturally fit with the SEC. Then the taking of Clemson, Florida State, and perhaps Georgia Tech to 22 stops their efforts.

With that move perhaps they don't even go for Miami.

But the thinking is more along these lines and has nada to do with football power in Va and NC. You shouldn't think that way. The Big 10 took USC and UCLA to try to approximate the value added with Texas and Oklahoma. They took Oregon and Washington because that's more seats at half price.

All of this is about much more than just football or sports.
