So it looks like Russia may have gotten trapped

Aug 30, 2022, 12:49 PM

One of Russia's biggest - and earliest - targets was Kherson in Southern Ukraine. They wanted it because Kherson and its river once supplied most of the water to Crimea, which Russia took in 2014. And of course, the Ukrainians immediately turned off the tap,,,as you would, when somebody, you know, invades your country and seizes your land. So supplying Crimea with water has been a never-ending headache for Russia ever since; they're actually having to pipe most of it in across a highway they built to connect Crimea to mainland Russia.

The problem is Kherson's on the Ukrainian side of the Dnieper River, and Ukraine recently got ahold of HIMARS, an America rocket-artillery system the Ukrainians are using to great effect against the Russkies.

Most recently, they used it to take out the bridges between Kherson and Russian-held Eastern Ukraine. Which left the Russian units in Kherson unable to get reinforcement or resupply.

Go on, Z. Drive across. It'll be fine.

Whoops, Russia. It looks like the Ukrainians were waiting on a big weapons shipment from the US, which they now have in hand. And now the Russians are about to lose what was by far the most significant prize they've taken in the war...along with probably 15-20 BTG's now trapped on the Ukrainian side of the river.

Does anybody think those trapped Russian troops are going to be terribly motivated to die in place fighting for real estate they neither need nor want? I'm betting they won't.

At first glance, I read "reassure foreign backers" as....

"reassure foreign BANKERS"... Not sure which is more appropriate.

Not a great day to be a Russian.

Not that there are many. But I'd hate to be a Russian solider trapped and staring down an UKR offensive after months of some of the worst human rights atrocities committed by Russian forces in the the post WWII era.
